View Full Version : Funniest mispronouciations
What are some of the funniest mispronounciations your child makes:
My twins say:
Prawns = crawns
Wheat bix = beakwix
Popadoms = crackadam
Garfield= catfield
and my favourite, my son keeps trying to sing the transformers theme (you know, transformers more than meets the eye)
and he sings "transformers forle-eye-eye" ROTF. DH and I have told him how the song goes repeatedly but I still catch him in the garden with his "transformers...forle-eye-eye"
Our youngest son puts his clothes on "hoathangers"
And for a long time, Dr Suess had written a book called "Rat in the Cat" instead of The Cat in the Hat
Angela never can seem to find her "flippers"..We've told her they're flip flops but she still calls his flippers..
She also drinkers "kooler" instead of Kool-aid..

Chloe called slippers, PIPPERS. They're now called pippers in our family. :D
Carissa called sharks DISASTERS when she was about 3. I was totally confused until I saw a Scooby show where they were in the water and they see a shark and Shaggy yells, "This is a DISASTER!"
We used to listen to our DC Talk cd all the time when Courtney was about 3. They have a song where the corus goes, "we've got to be... children of peace..." One day I heard Courtney singing, "we've got to be... children of CHEESE...!"
Joy [welcomewave]
Thats cute, reminded me of another one..Not DC Talk but NewsBoys have a song " Ticker Tape Parade "
Angela sings it " Tipper Cake Charade " and it never fails she'll ask " what kind of a cake is that? The kind that falls over? "
We have tons of words that she heard wrong when she was going deaf but I can't think of them right now..

ROTF! Kids are sooo funny, you almost don't want to correct them because it's sooo cute.
When a few of you mentioned the DC Talk songs it reminded me of when my mum did family day care and she would play her worship tapes and there was a song that went
"I worship you, yes I worship you, I exalt your holy name"
and one of the daycare kids Michelle, would sing along "I wor shampoo, I wor shampoo" and crack us all up.

The crackadams and fluffy floff really made me laugh Aussie_Mum - they seem so inventive.
It is also really cute when littlies add letters and syllables.
Some of Joshua's current ones are:
Tomomato - tomato
Clolour - colour
Pliglet - Piglet
Spiggagetti - spaghetti

Doodlebugs for Doodlebops (easy mistake)
Artigins for Barkyardigans

Talking Pig for "Charlotte's Web"
Of course I could come up with lots more if I wasn't trying to write them down.

My ds 4 does the exact same thing. Where do they get that from! He used to call a caboose a bagoose. He gets mad when I call them bagooses now! "No Mom, it's a caboose, ca-boose (bc I used to enunciate ca...boose for him, now he does it for me  ).
He still has quite a few but he speaks pretty well. Now he just gets meanings confused. AT the toy store yesterday he asked me if I had any sympathy left for him!!! Not sure why he needed in when I was buying him a toy!

Oh these are so fun, I love it. But of course, I can't recall anything Argh!
I can think of my 5 yr olds most recent... he was eating the last few 'nipples' of food (nibbles) His brothers (7 and 9) nearly busted a gut laughing at that one.
Now, my 2 yr old, she has some doozies...I just can't remember anything but "chockie" for chocolate
Teef for teeth
She just got over saying "wanee" for water
Crike-a-dull for crocodile
Surely I can post more later this week. The girl never stops talking and though I can understand 95% of what she says quite clearly...there's that tricky 5% that makes for funnies :)

My dd was funny when she was younger. She called BoJangles, which is a restaraunt here in the south, JoBangles. She called elephants, efalants. (We still call them efalants to this day  . Even extended family!) And she referred to herself as Corney, instead of Courtney, for quiet some time.
My ds has kept me laughing for 10 years. He doesn't pronounce his "r's" right. He is a lot better than before, but I have to put this story in here. My sister and I were having a conversation while I was pregnant with Preston. We were talking about the baby getting calcium while in the womb. My dd asked us what a womb was. Ds pipes up and says--"duh! You don't know what a room is?? You know, like a living room, bed room, bath room." Just as serious as the day is long. I thought we were all going to die laughing!! He also called pretzels, pentzils up until maybe a year or so ago.  He's crazy!
Preston is only 20 months old and so far has pronounced his words like they are supposed to be pronounced. Not that he knows the whole dictionary or anything, but what he does know, he says right. The only thing he does is drag some of his words out. Like a car is a caaaarrrrr and a tree is a treeeeee.
I love it when they are learning to talk!!!
Lori
PS--I know I have told the womb story on here before, but I couldn't resist again. Sorry for those of you who had to endure it twice!!

They don't have to be real young either. Just yesterday my 10 year old told me that he didn't like a song on the radio because it said boobs. I told him he had that wrong and we listened closely to the song and the words were: ' May my love give you roots that you may find your wings..." He thought it was saying 'May my love give you boobs.." No wonder he didn't like the song! LOL!

HAHAHA! Those crack me up!
Just the other day my 3 year old was begging dh for a "boo boo ring". We could not figure out what she was talking about, but she wanted it really bad so she was pleading with us and getting quite upset that we didn't understand her. When we asked her to explain what it does we figured out she was talking about the boomerang she got for her birthday. We had put it up because she was throwing it in the house. That was just soo funny though, boo boo ring, lol!

My 3yo dd calls her swimsuit a suitcase! Umbumbrella for umbrella ofcourse. And her newest lingo is potato for playdough! I can usually figure out what she's talking about, because I mixed up my word the same way for years!
When mine were little they called thunder 'BumFunder'
and one day Sophie started saying 'Bumsink' to us and we couldnt figure out what she was saying until we remembered that she must have heard her grandad telling us a story of how as a security guard he told a man to go and have a wash because his bum stinks (he's jamaican, if that means anything). So she started calling us a BumSink, meaning our bum stinks.
And I just remembered... just this morning Josh was looking at a picture of a scorpion on the wall. He goes 'Is that a Squerpian?' Julie goes 'NOOO, its a Squorpian!!' She is miss bossyboots knowitall. And I have never corrected Josh when he called a Polar Bear a Poly Bear because it is just so cute.

When we went down to Tennessee right before Timmy was two, my hubby took Timmy outside on the porch to watch the rain. Then when there was thunder he asked if Timmy could say thunder. Timmy said F*cker. My husband of course thought this was halarious and brought Timmy around to everyone and told him to say thunder. Then he got to uncle Bill and said, call uncle Bill a thunder. lol. Luckily that only lasted a week or so then he would say funder. Which was much better!

I had forgotten about this until just now.. I don't really think it was funny, more shocking, but anyway.. my 3 year when she was younger would pronounce sm as f for some reason.. like smile would be file. well one day she repeated me talikng about smuckers peanut butter. I tried to ignore it so she wouldn't think anything of it.
Just yesterday, ds was getting changed out of his school uniform, and told me he had no other pants to put on. I told him there must be some in his drawer. He said "I've got 2 pairs of boogies, can I wear those?" I tried to keep a straight face while asking "What are boogies?" "You know, the shorts I wear swimming." "Ohhhh, you mean boardies?" "Yeah, those."
Gettting his board shorts (boardies) muddled up with a boogie board I guess
When our eldest was about 2 1/2, he came running into the room one day, all in a flap, yelling (what I thought) "Jesus is coming, Jesus is coming"
Finally worked out there had been an add on the TV, where a huge cheese ball is rolling down a hill towards people, and he was telling me "Cheeses is coming"

Just had to add this, a couple of weeks ago ds was being silly, so I called him a silly goose, he thought this was hilarious, but instead of silly goose, he calls himself funny goose! When he does something he thinks is funny he will go "I'm a funny goose", but of course since he's not 2 yet it isn't quite that clear it sounds like he's saying " I'm fondue"
