Ok- so I'm a little paranoid with the whole plastics (#7 leaks carconegenics into whatever is inside them) thing. It's once again a situation where I don't have enough knowledge to detect bogus reports. I am concerned... we have stopped microwaving anything in plastic... and if the truth be told, might not be a bad idea to not use the microwave at all... but I shudder to think of the consequences in my unorganized cooking life...
Have any of you found non-plastic sippies that are any good? We found a stainless steel one but the lid doesn't screw on and can be pulled off- that would spell disaster for us.
Maybe we should restrict sippy cup use to "on the road" only and use a regular cup at home...

All I could really find was stuff about some "non-toxic" stainless cups... And I found this on Amazon... I don't know how factual or what-not this is, so bear with me... but it's what I've found so far...

Other Polycarbonate product examples to AVOID:
Bottles: Avent; Dr. Brown's; Evenflo (clear); First Years; Gerber (clear); Playtex Vent Aire; Sassy; TupperCare.
Sippy cups to AVOID: Gerber Suzy's Zoo & Sippy Snacker, Playtex First Sipster & Sparkling Sipster.

SAFER ALTERNATIVES: (Non-polycarbonate products)
Bottles: Evenflo glass or pastel polyethylene plastic; Gerber polypropylene opaque plastic; Medela breastmilk polypropylene storage bottles and polyethylene milk storage bags; disposable bottle systems with polyethylene plastic inserts (e.g., Playtex Nurser, Playtex Drop-Ins).

ALSO SAFER: "Sippy" cups made of polypropylene or polyethylene: Avent Magic Cup; Evenflo cups (inner lining); First Years Take & Toss; Gerber Color Change, Sport Fun Grip and Soft Starter; Playtex Sipster, Big Sipster & Quick Straw.

Not all products contain information on whether or not they contain PVC, but something I noticed on Amazon.com. If the Product Details include: "Shipping: Currently, item can be shipped only within the U.S. and to APO/FPO addresses" chances are that it contains PVC as it is banned in several other countries.

Note: Baby bottle nipples are usually made of silicone or latex rubber. Silicone nipples are lighter in color and are safer, as latex rubber nipples may leach carcinogenic nitrosamines.22

Please educate yourself on the dangers of PVC and safer alternatives, especially for children's products, including many toys. Pass along this information to all you know with children, 'google' PVC-free alternatives, and as consumers let's force companies to stop using this toxin.

you can use Klean Kanteens with Avent sippy lids...

here's some links:

we have them and LOVE them.

I know they are expensive but I got a deal ;)

We are trying hard to ditch our plastic sippies, but man are they useful. I lost one of our SIGG bottles, and I seriously cried over it (cause they are $$)

I have to mention about the clear gerber baby bottles...I called and specifically asked about the problem ingredients and they do NOT make their clear baby bottles with those chemicals anymore according to the customer service rep I spoke with...he listed the alternative safe chemicals as the make up now and said they are safe. ;-) I had been using Avent and Dr. Brown and switched that day and was trying to find a safe alternative....so I started calling around!

here is some info on the plastic scare, which I am also avoiding just in case it really is dangerous. http://www.webmd.com/baby/news/20030331/danger-in-plastic-baby-bottles
