Has anyone read the "What to Expect When You Are Expecting" pregnancy diet? I am really really way beyond blowing it!

hehe - I'm totally blowing it too! I'm just lucky to actually make myself eat anything! I've got the weird syndrome being hungry and not finding anything that appeals to me! So, just eating *something* is good. Usually it's cereal or pb&j or fruit. Then of course there is the candy and cookies that are sitting around!

How many weeks are you and how much weight have you gained?

All in balance I say...

I'm 23 weeks and I've gained about 6 lbs.

and what's wrong with chocolate?

heehee

I'm still kind of in the same boat as Kate..hungry, but don't know what for...whatever it is, I never have it haha

It seems the most I eat right now is dinner. I eat an actual meal then. The rest of the day...who knows. I may get as healthy as an apple. Or not. LOL

I'm 18wk (gestation) and have gained about 5 pounds.
Apparently I'm trying to stick close to you Kate haha

Well I am twelve weeks and I am sure I have gained ?? I always gain 35 pounds by the end. I put on weight on my arms and ahh my face, but I still have chicken legs! Need to get on my bike again~one day. I just started xc-skiing again. That should be good for me. I do not have a scale. My first appointment is Jan 7th!! So I shall see then, but it has got to be at least 5 pounds.

I'm in the same boat with the other gals here... hungry but nothing sounds good... I actually ate coconut cream pie and M&M's today!!! I haven't been able to eat anything SWEET for weeks and weeks and weeks!!!

EveryONE is different and every pregnancy is different... with number one I gained about 30-35 pounds, with number two I gained about 50-60 pounds, then with the twins I gained 20 pounds! Weird!! :)

Expecting moms should definitely TRY to eat healthy, but the operative word is TRY- you can only eat what sounds good and stays down!

And God is so amazing to give us healthy babies in spite of ourselves- when I think about what I ate while pregnant (a whole month of nothing but Corn Pops for example, or a month of mostly Taco Bell)- my perfect healthy children are definitely His work and not mine! :-D

Actually I read that mothers that ate chocolate during thier pregnancies had more smiley babies?! But my rule of thumb is eat what you are craving because otherwise you won't enjoy what ever it is you are MAKING yourself eat. Just do things in moderation.

I just had to say I want to eat chocolate all day too and I am not even prgenant. AND when I WAS pregnant I had my fair share of it. :-D My babies were all healthy and beautiful. I also gained a TON of weight. 45 pounds first baby, 50 pounds second baby, 60 pounds third baby( he was 9 ounds 11 oz) and 52 pounds fourth baby and he was born 10 days early! BUT I got it all off quickly. As long as you hit the good raw fruits and veggies too...I think you are good!

Exactly, Tara! I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one. I was starting to think something was wrong with me! So, honestly, it's ok that I've gained only 5 or 6 lbs? Everything I've read says about 15 lbs by now...

I have always gained 'little'. I think the most I have ever gained is 30-32 ?? I'm wanting to think that was with #3 my just shy of 8# little guy.
But I gained less than that...more around the 25 range for the other 4 pregnancies. Resulting in an 8# 4oz baby, 2 - 7.5# babies and a 7# even.

I don't put a lot of stress on the weight gain. As long as you are eating what you can when you can (aka, not ignoring hunger signs and starving yourself) then it'll all be ok. That's what I've practiced all along and have had strong healthy babies each time. And none were exceptionally small. I mean, yeah, 7# I think is "small" but, *I* am rather small, so...

Anywho..don't stress it. Yes, *try* to eat healthy..but if you have a month of Corn Pops, it'll be ok heehee (mine was Cocoa Pebbles...see..chocolate!)

Your body generally evens it all out. The next month you may crave protein sources and the next fruits.

Okay, here's a few suggestions...do you think that you're low in magnesium? Because chocolate cravings can be a sign of needing more magnesium!

Most dietary magnesium comes from vegetables, particularly dark green, leafy vegetables. Other foods that are good sources of magnesium are:

Soy products, such as soy flour and tofu
Legumes and seeds
Nuts (such as almonds and cashews)
Whole grains (such as brown rice and millet)
Fruits or vegetables (such as bananas, dried apricots, and avocados)

Also, I've read somewhere that when chocolate cravings hit, to try date covered almonds instead. (Removing pit from date and replacing with almond)

Another thing that you could check out is the plethora of carob products in your health food store. Carob is a healthier alternative to chocolate. They have carob covered almonds, etc.

How about smoothies? You could make a smoothie with chocolate soy milk, bananas, and some kind of protein powder. I've seen hemp protein powder and also Spiru-tein. (Spirulina and soy protein)

I remember those first trimester days of forcing myself to eat, because nothing looked good! I may use some of my own suggestions when we have another one. :)

Good luck!

My midwives (different gals in different states) have always told me that the baby takes what it needs from your body, not necessarily from what you eat... so the baby won't suffer... your body will; and by "suffer" it's simply that the baby will take the vitamins and such from you... instead of your body using it... thus some women get flimsy nails and brittle hair and their skin breaks out like mad. That made me feel so much better, when I felt that even thought I couldn't eat because I was so sick the baby was still getting what she needed.

Maybe that's why my skin is terrible!!! ick!

Similar to Tara, gaining little and having a good sized baby- I gained 30 pounds with my twins, and they weighed 6 lbs 1 oz and 6 lbs 12 oz.

God just works it all out!! :-D

Ha haa hee he !!!!! Very funny! Can not imagine eating that ~ any time! I like cream cheese, but not olives. So glad it sounds good to you though.[verycool]

Thanks for all the advice:-D Maybe I will try figs. I just started taking my cal-mag vitamin. I think I am just a chocolate nut and not really needing it. I ALWAYS love chocolate and over Christmas we had a house full of it!
