I thought that it would be fun to start a thread on our favorite baby gifts that we have gotten from others.
My BIL and SIL got me a Boppy breastfeeding pillow. My MIL gave me a sling, and my Step-MIL gave me a playpen.
What are your favorites?
It might give me an idea when others ask me what I want/need for the baby.

One of my favorite things from my baby shower was a picture album set that was actually 3 different albums. One was for newborn photos, one for the first year, and the other for toddler years. It was sooooo cute and I have really enjoyed putting pictures in it!

Something kindof different was the book "Goodnight Moon" It is now Justice's favorite book. All I have to do to get him to come to me is recite the verses and he comes a crawlin'. Great gift.

I would have to agree that my most treasured gits are the homeade blankets I received for my dd and ds as well. Also, my son bought his baby sister a blanket befoe she was born and loves to talk about how he got it for her...

I have that!! I love it!
Hmm, one gift that was really outstanding was a laundry basket full of stuff for bathing... little hooded towels, baby wash, lotion, etc.
I also got some Dreft, Q-tips, all kinds of practical things. I like those kinds of gifts.

I am a practical girl, so I loved getting diapers and boxes of baby wipes! I also recieved one of those 3 in one albums too, they were really nice.
A friend of mine gave me a pack of diapers, wrapped in a blanket with little lotions, powder etc. that is great as I love those for when we are traveling.

Not a baby gift, but I bought my children those Clean Shopper shopping cart covers. I swear by them! When my daughter was a baby, the first time she ever got sick was when we forgot to bring the cart cover to the store. Those shopping carts are full of germs and having a cover that not only covers the handle bar but the entire seat and sides was/is a lifesaver! :)
You can order them from the website www.cleanshopper.com but I've found that Ebay is even cheaper. You might be able to find them in stores. But all the stores near me only sold the ones that partially cover the shopping cart seat.

I would have to say that a bouncy seat was the best gift I ever got. My babies enjoyed it until they could no longer fit in it and I could put them in it and turn the vibrator on whenever I needed to something that I couldn't do and hold them at the same time. Stephanie :D

Someone did my dd's name in needlepoint to hang on the front of her door. That was a cool gift. My Mom bought her a piggy bank too.
Okay I'm going to try to get through this response without
My most cherished gift is a pink baby quilt with embroidered animals on 9 squares....Nope didn't make it
My mother (who died on Christmas Eve and I've just this past week forgiven for a life of pain), began embroidering the animals for this quilt when she was pregnant with me...
She finished it two days before my daughter was born, about 20yrs after she started it

Another thing that I really, really like and hope to get more of with #2 are homemade hooded bath towels. They are a bath sheet with a hand towel folded and sewed in the middle of the side. They still work great with my 18 month old. The other baby bath towels I got, got wet really quickly and I then got wet, not so with these home made ones.

I don't know if this was said, but one of my faves that I never thought about before was the baby's first year calendar. You fill out the calendar yourself starting with the month the baby is born. It's sooo handy to have hanging on the wall and fill in things you want to remember. It's alot easier than pulling out the baby book every time your child reaches a milestone. You can just fill in the book using the calendar when you are ready.

I also wanted to add that I love home made burp cloths, especially when they are colorful as they don't get so stained.

Someone mentioned a shopping cart cover. We got a Floppy Seat (BRU or TRU $39.99 - look for coupons) that can be used for shopping carts or high chairs. It has little loops to hook toys to, too. I got Huggies disposable washcloths w/baby wash. I cut them in half cuz they're so suddsy, but they're great for trips to grandma's - or anytime.

Nici, we have the Ocean Wonders crib toy. :D We bought it for Chloe when she was a newborn and she loved it sooooo much!! She learned to turn it on herself before she could even roll over. We bought it for everyone who was having a baby for years to come! :D Chloe is now going to be SEVEN in a few days, and... SHE STILL HAS IT!!! [rofl] It's attached to the footboard of her bed where she still turns it on at night and watches it. We LOVE IT!!! [claploud]

My favorite gift was from our pastor's wife. She made a cross stiched baby quilt with many colorful animals and the saying "Our blessing from above".
I have the one that my grandmother had made for me and I use it for Zak now. I hope Zak will keep his, and use it with any children he may have.

I can't think of them all my favourites at the moment, but here are a few of the more original ones:
I love a cross-stitch that a friend of ours did that has name, birthdate and weight of our little boy in a really cute frame. I also love the name plaque that a friend gave us for his door. Another good idea - one of my friends gave me some of her old parenting magazines to read.
It is good to see that the rave reviews for the Ocean Wonders crib toy. I had wondered what it was like because someone is sending us one for our new baby due in October.

My four fave gifts I got for DD were:
1. EVERY DAY ITEMS: Instead of a baby shower...I had my church-family throw me a diaper shower. They asked what were the things we needed and we pretty much had everything covered. But, babies always need diapers or everyday items. So everyone brought something like diapers, wipes, diaper rash cream, or different baby washes. I can not tell you how much this helped us. We did not have to by diapers til DD was about two months old, wipes at about the same time, diaper rash crem until she was about ten months, and I will probably not be buying baby wash for the next year still.
2.DIAPER BAG...with the cutest little diaper changing towel that rolled up. It has cute little polka dots and it has dd's name on it. Someone at DH's job actually made it for me(his dept. threw me a baby shower). She did such an awesome job.
3. SWING: From my mom. The ones that do not need batteries...you just do up the the little motor. She only payed 1.98 for it at a thrift store. DD had the colic and that seemed to be the only thing that helped sometimes. It would have still kept going if I wouldn't have knocked it over and broke it.
4. PAPIZON (spelling?): By fisher price. One of my friends got this for me and it was so nice and comfy for DD. It even has music and vibrations. She loved it!! Now I see they make them in swings...so DH and I are def. gonna make that investment on baby #2.

The swing we got was awesome! ds was terrified of the co-sleeper (like a bassinet that attaches to the side of the parent's bed for nursing) and crib as a newborn (the dr said it is bec they are used to very cozy warm spaces and all the cold space makes them feel unsafe) and would only sleep thru the nite if he was on me, so when he was a little older (3-4 mos) we used the swing to transition him to his crib.
My parents got him a wonderful personalized hooded towel that we still use. and when he was little we used our boppy all the time - that and the nursing stool saved my back.
the cards my best friend gave me both before and after ds was born also made me so emotional - i usually don't save cards, but those i will. she also made all of the invitations for my surprise shower by hand - i have one framed in my hallway.

A friend made a baby quilt for our first son. He's 4 and still uses it. He calls it "star blankie"! He loves it. It was falling apart so the same friend made him another with trains (trains are his passion) but it didn't substitute. That one now hangs on his wall. He wanted star blankie!
With my second son, the hooded bath towel I would have to say. My 4 year old got one for his first birthday and he still uses it, but with my 11 month old, I've been using it from the get go and it's way better than those ones you buy. This is the homemade one too. I love it.
