My two year old contracted ringworm (a fungus, not a worm I found out) on his arms and diaper area.....the doctor prescribed an antibiotic anti-fungal cream which we have been using for three days now and it has now spread to under his armpit! I have been cornstarching all moist areas on the body and keeping him cool and not sweating to avoid moisture where it likes to grow most.....I have bleached everything in my home, washed all bedding, rewash all towels and rugs and bedding each day, washed all throw blankets and put them up, washed all of his stuffed animals and put up until healed, thrown out all washclothes, bleached all tubs and rebleach after each time his bathes.....emptied and bleached all kiddie pools and the sandbox and thrown out all toys and started over with new hard plastic ones that I bleach after he plays with....he wears long sleeves at night so his face can't be on it and PJ shirt is washed each morning so it's fresh.......
Any home remedies you've tried that worked magic??!! I'm desperate! I don't understand how this can spread so fast with no contact! I'm the biggest neat and germ freak there is and this is grossing me out! Poor kid! I'm pregnant too, so I have to apply his medicine with plastic baggies on my hands since it's not safe for pregnancy....were DESPERATE for any help!! They said this can take up to 4 months to go away! Ugh! I can't keep this pace up for that long!
Thanks!

My niece had ringworm a few years ago. It just took time to go away. Make sure you do not use the same towels that your son uses. You can also use cotton balls to apply the antibiotic since they're much cheaper than plastic baggies. If you have any pets, check them to make sure they don't have ringworm, too. My niece's was bigger than a quarter and it took about 2 months for it to finally be gone. After about a week or so, it start to change color. But it didn't start to shrink for a couple weeks. After about 10 days, if it doesn't start to change, I'd call the dr.

I'm praying for you.

I'll be praying for you too! I had one when I was a teen-ager and it was on my thigh. I remember putting antibotic ointment on it and it took a while to clear up. It finally did though. We had fleas in our house several years ago and that about drove me crazy so I can relate to having an "unwanted visitor(s)" and how hard it is to get it gone. Hang in there my friend! It sounds like you are doing everything right!

first let me say, calm down. it's part of childhood. most kids get them, it's not a sign of cleanliness or filthiness, they do " just happen".
but I would suggest "painting" it with clear finger nail polish twice a day. that always worked with me when I was little and that's what I use on our boys.
you can also do this with poison oak, ivy, etc.
since it's a son, maybe you could get some blue nail polish to "encourage him". just make sure to clean it with alcohol everytime you paint it.

Wow! You did all that?! Is it really dangerous if you are pregnant? It's just a fungal skin infection.
Do you have cats or dogs?
I had ringworm once and was given antifungal cream also. That cleared it up.
Anyway, I'd just get some more cream from the doctor and apply it to his armpit.

Sorry to hear your little one has ringworm. I hope it goes away soon.

Oops I think I just realized you meant the medicine isn't safe  Sorry! I thought you meant ringworm was dangerous if you get it during pregnancy
Here in NZ they sell packs of 10 rubber disposable gloves for less than $2.00. Would that be cheaper than using plastic bags?

thanks for all the support and ideas! No animals here either....they think that maybe it was our sandbox! We have always made Ethan play in the sandbox with dry sand which is kept in one of those plastic little tykes turtles with a lid outdoors.....except we put water in it for him to play with in this heat so he wouldn't be so hot...and he LOVED it! They think since fungal things grow in heat and moisture that when we put the lid on in the 100 degree plus heat after playing each day, it just bread the nasty little fungus! That's why we threw out the sand and all the sand toys and bleached the box and started over again with new bagged dry sand.
I had read the clear finger nail polish thing.....do you remove it with remover each time or just clean with alcohol, dry and reapply polish?? I also heard today that tea tree oil is a good fungal killer and can help kill it on fabrics and showers if washed with it??
Thanks All!

Isn't it funny how people think it's a worm?

I would suggest Canesten (thrush treatment) - the stuff women use is no different to topical stuff which you can put on fungal skin problems.

Not sure if this would work but Manuka Honey is WONDERFUL.

Well that is interesting... I had no idea it could breed in sand.

It should go away soon... just put the cream on his armpit as well.
I don't remember how long it took for mine to go away. I only had the one on my leg and I got it from cuddling with a friends cat that had it (they didn't know she had it). I think it might have been a couple of weeks...

Ringworm really doesn't worry me too much.... I guess it's just because we have three cats and it's just one of those things we are likely to encounter with three cats. Like fleas and worms...
Ringworm and threadworm etc... are pretty easy to get rid of.

It's headlice I am hoping that Abby doesn't get for a while yet! I hate those things.
I think we pretty much had everything as kids... chicken pox, ringworm, impetigo, headlice, worms...

Raw honey has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria, yeast, and fungi. It also speeds wound healing and contains substances known to protect cells. Cold pressed olive oil and pure beeswax both contain compounds that have anti-inflammatory actions in the body. Mix an equal amount of these 3 ingredients (melt the beeswax) and apply it 3 time a day. It is so safe you can eat it! It should be gone in about 3-4 weeks using this treatment.

Hoping things are improving, I don't have any advice just hoping it stopped spreading for you, and your son.

Praying for fast healing.

knock on wood...it has stopped spreading now....just the long road to recovery! After treating this, makes you never want to let them touch anything you haven't sterilized again! LOL

We had an outbreak at the daycare I worked at...come to think of it we had an outbreak of just about everything there...anyway besides the doctor note and ointment, it was required that the kids be polished with clear polish eat day to prevent spreading...that and alot of prayer and antibacterial cleaning, Angela and I never caught it...I had 3 in my room alone!!! Its a nightmare...hope it ends soon for you..
