Hi Ladies,

I've just been prescribed Lexapro by my OB. I've been having issues with anxiety and depression. Anyone here ever taken this? What about during pregnancy?

Pray for me...

thanks

Will pray for you... I have not taken lexapro but I was prescribed a bit of Ativan (Lorazepam generically) for anxiety and a sleep aid during my last pregnancy, I was assured both were very safe. I was high-risk which caused lots of anxiety and was going through some personal drama at the time as well. I took both very short term, only for about two weeks.

The only advice I can give you is to ask your OB how the drug is classified. There is a system for ranking the safety of different drugs during pregnancy. Here's a link I found that explains the classification system:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pregnancy_category

You could try googling your specific drug and see if you could find it's classification too.

I have heard that Lexapro is ok - on another message board I was on there were 2 moms who had taken it while pg and nursing and their babies were healthy. I haven't been on any medication in a long time, but based on their info I was going to ask for that medication specifically (as opposed to another SSRI) if I felt like I really needed to go back on something. Praying for you.

Thanks for the info, link and encouragement. It looks to be category C. I have an appt. with my OB on Thursday. We will discuss further then I'm guessing.

I normally take Lexapro for my depression and it works greats. However, my doctor told me not to take it during my pregnancy. However, my depression is very mild and maybe it wasn't worth the risks.

wouldn't advise it here....mental health pro. here and if you DON'T have to have it and can use other alternatives to drugs (sometimes it's very necessary) ...I'd reccomend trying other non-med options first to help relax/calm the anxiety for your baby's sake....

Well, things seemed to be going well with taking the Lexapro. Then yesterday morning just before leaving for church, I got this really weird feeling. I couldn't really explain it yesterday, but I will try again today.

I felt weird, empty, anxious. I was not able to focus. I couldn't remember easy things like how to 'introduce' the offering during the service. I was a bit light headed, but not nauseas or dizzy. It was definitely a physical feeling that something wasn't right with my body. It went away by 3rd service.

I don't really know what it was. I could still function and people that don't really know me at church didn't realize something was 'off'.

Any ideas?
