or method I can use during pregnancy to loosen phlegm in my throat/lungs? I have a cold and I have a bit of phlegm in my throat that is really hard to clear.

try running a warm mist humidifier in the night to keep things loose.....gargle salt water (just don't swallos ;-)....try warm washcloth compresses on your chest and rub vicks into your chest/throat before you apply to open things up.....rubbing the base of your neck can help loosen things too since you have major sinus cavities right at the base there....drink something hot like peppermint tea....sometimes drinking hot tea with lemon can help loosen phlegm because it creates some and binds to the other to get rid of it.....use saline nose drops to clear head so it won't drain to throat in the first place....

Good luck! Dealing with the same things!

Thanks!

Yeah Paul is sick too. He was throwing up on Monday morning.
I had to run to the bathroom this morning because there was phlegm in my throat and I was gagging :(

I've been having Bonningtons Irish Moss cough syrup because I've got a tickle in my throat. And I've been having Lemsip sachets (Cold & Flu but not the ones with Pseudoephedrine in them! LOL). They just have Paracetamol and Menthol in them so that's ok

We have some Vicks vaporub...

Someone recommended to me to gargle with hot water and salt, it worked pretty well and loosened up the phlegm.

If you try it, be careful not to swallow it...b/c I did and...Ewwwwww!!!

I agree with the humidifier, or even shutting your bathroom door and turning the hot water in the shower on full to make steam (I used to do that for my asthma).

You could also set up one of those old fashioned bowl of hot water, tea towel over head and vics melted in the hotwater. (The croc dundee treatment).

Sorry youre feeling sick, sounds like you need a good dose of scalding hot chicken noodle soup.

Thanks! I was considering the bowl and towel thing with Vicks... but I don't think I can handle it.
I have been bringing up some phlegm... I am hoping to be basically over this by tomorrow. Wishful thinking probably...

I have the chicken soup! LOL I swear by that stuff.
And I have been having the normal Lemsip Cold & Flu sachets and Bonningtons Irish Moss cough syrup (which has Licorice extract in it but I don't care) and I bought some throat lozenges last night. They are Comvita Lemon & Honey with Bee Propolis and Active Manuka honey.
I have to use something because I can't suffer like that. I'm just not good when I'm sick LOL I get all "feeling sorry for myself" and weepy and I've been making Paul feel bad for making me sick (he passed it onto me) LOL

Manuka honey rocks Renee, it has such great healing properties, so definately stick to it!! I absolutely swear by it.

I had a surgical infection which no amount of AB's, antiseptic paste could get rid of and someone gave me the manuka honey and I kid you not it cleared the infection up with days (and it was a nasty pus gross foul infection).

I certainly hope that you make a quicker recovery than me - I have been struggling with similar symptoms (been sick for a couple of weeks now). I always find the steamy bathroom trick helpful as Aussie_Mum has suggested - not finding it helpful with the climbing power bill though :( .

Yeah the throat lozenges seem to have done something... I love honey especially Manuka
But I have the feeling my immune system must have been really bad when I got sick (low amount of white blood cells) because I never have a cold for longer than 3-5 days. I'm still sick (almost gone now though) and it's been 8 days!

Yesterday I had chicken and corn soup with mild Indian curry powder added to it!
