BALTIMORE — The father of a fallen Marine was awarded nearly $11 million Wednesday in damages by a jury that found leaders of a fundamentalist church had invaded the family's privacy and inflicted emotional distress when they picketed the Marine's funeral.

*shakes head* What is wrong with people? This is just so disheartening. :(

just saw this on the Today show. All I can say, as a military wife, is Praise God and Amen. This same 'church" group protested the funerals of two very good friends of ours last year.
Thankfully, a group of Christian Harley Davidson guys try to show up at each funeral of a soldier, they don't intrude on the funeral services, but they stand in front of the yucky protesters with HUGE American flags to block their signs from the family.
Hopefully that groups lawyer won't be able to get the fines dropped or reduced and it will put an end to their awfulness. I really wish they wouldn't claim the name of our God when they do that stuff.
My gramma used to sing a little tune whenever we were acting up and it came to mind this morning when I heard the news about his group------"God's gonna get you for that, God's gonna get you for that......" I find myself singing it to my kids when they are fighting! Anyway, thanks for posting this Becca. And thanks to all of you who support our military, even if you don't like the war.

I hope it makes them bankrupt!! The phelps' church is the WORST I have EVER seen as far as being hateful. I am seriously glad something has been done about it. I think part of the reason nobody ever bothered suing them before is because they are lawyers!!

Yeah.. the Phelps are something else.. I can not believe they claim to be part of the baptist church.

Thats terrible. Why do that to someone who is mourning such a loss and especially not realizing that they have that right because a soldier has fought for them?

I don't understand people. I see stuff like that and I say WWJD?

Ugh...yeah i heard about this this morning on good day LA. I don't like the fact that they use the Lord's name either because then they make outsiders think that "all" christians are same and react this way, which is so not true! People like that just give true followers of Christ a bad name. IMHO

yeah, got a personal pet peeve with them... several members, including their "pastor" sent hate mail to my husband. They were going to picket our church... but HA HA HA, they accidentally picketted another. We're friends with people from the other church and thankfully they were familiar with what to expect from the phelps cult.

People like this make me SICK....and to know that they claim to be Christians well I am just beside myself.....to know that they show up to disgrace that soldier and his family during such a loss is totally ignorant to me....I simply can't go there. I have heard about the Harley guys and they have a name for their group just can't think of it right now.....for them to do what they do is such a blessing to those families....and all of them are Vets as far as I know. It just makes me sad...because our men and women have fought over the years for freedom but not this kind......

I wonder what they would do if placed in a soldiers boots for even 5 mins......they would never make it
