I am really struggling with ds diaper rash. He does poo about 4-5 times a day and I change him right away. The cloth diapers were helping but it's back! He cries when it's time for a change and today he was bleeding in some spots! I feel so bad for him. I have been putting him in disposables at night with heavy diaper rash cream (Butt Paste) and that helps a little bit. Any other tips? I know that letting him have time without the diaper is good and I try but I have had some DISASTERS with that...

I know some kids that have diaper rash so bad that their parents decide to potty train them! usually it's around 1 y/o too...like your ds. I was told the other day that children in China are potty trained at some crazy age, like 9 months!

I don't really have any other advice for you...but have you tried other types of cream/paste? Different kids/skin works better with different stuff...

Hope it clears up soon!!!

When we did that with katherine we put her in a loose, thin pair of cotton shorts. It kept stuff from getting everywhere long enough we had time to clean it up (we only did this while we were watching her closely so she wouldn't make a mess in it) but her bum still got air.... we still had a LOT of laundry though. it happens.

Along the lines of what Cheezy was suggesting..I was going to ask if you'd put him in a cloth diaper with NO cover? That can help too. It's at least close to no diaper.

And ditto trying another kind of cream. I alternate between the zinc oxide kind and the A&D ointment.

sometimes rashes can be caused by food allergies. also, calendula cream from the health food store can help.

A pediatrician can order in a MIRACLE cream! My boys when teething, would be sooo sore and bleed too....we used Baby Beaudrux's (sp?) and Dr. Smiths butt paste too, but they can make an aquaphore/cortisone blend cream....that is absolutely amazing! Would make a total difference in just two uses!

Well as for creams, if you were talking about Boudreaux's Butt Paste, I think that is one of the best. Also, Tipple Paste works really well, but I think the Boudreaux's has a higher zinc amount and I think that is what helps.

Since he poos about 4-5 times a day, you could gently clean him with warm water and then pat him dry or use some cornstarch on him and let him go for a little while naked or get him some loose fitting tightie whities. Thats what we did.

I know if makes you feel so bad when their hinnies are so sore. Is he teething? That seems to make it worse.

I once heard of a dr.-made cream with pepcid in it...don't know the official recipe though.
