Has anyone ever heard of this product or used them? There is a lady running a business with Olliemate nappies on e-bay. They are a cloth/reusable nappy with no pins required, you still need pilchers and a liner so they are more like a modern style of cloth nappy - they look nice, and seem quite user friendly and in the past I was like "NO WAY!" when it came to the idea of cloth nappies (simply too because I had a set of twins, CAN YOU IMAGINE LOL) - but now I am considering trialing some Olliemates to save money.

I would probably choose to use disposable at night and olliemates in the day if all goes well - DH and I are obsessed with cutting back on spendings since reading an article on how much money people simply "WASTE" (no please don't misunderstand I am not suggesting people who use disposables are wasting money !!! that is not what I am referring too) - so referring to our article anyway we can eliminate spending and or cut back costs is a good thing.

There are also many articles saying that buying cloth style nappies does NOT save money at all because of the amount of nappisan, washing powder, water, power you drive up billwise ??? so that is another thing I am considering.

I know it will be extra work etc has anyone used this product or somethign similar?

those are fitted diapers. You still need a diaper cover.

Cost is going to depend on how long you use them, if you can resell them, and if you can pass them along to another child.

We broke even costwise at 6 months of using cloth diapers... not counting laundering costs. BUT now we are going on 2.5 years of using them! and 3rd child is using the mediums that my older child already outgrew. If they ever potty train, I can make a couple hundred dollars by selling the dipes.

Yeah Rachel the Mum who is selling them told me I still need pilchers (plastic pants). She said she has used them on all her kids and they work great.

last pregnancy someone was trying to get me into easy nappy which you supposedly don't need ANYTHING (pilchers etc) but the tabs for fastening the nappies were an absolute joke - they did not absorb the wee at all, it just came out the sides and not into the nappy and then I was told I had to wash the Easy Nappy first. I just ended up saying no to them because of the terrible tiny velcro attatchers that only attach barely the sides of the nappy together.

we loved fitteds and covers (olliemates and pilchers). It was just easier to use the pocket diapers, which go on and off like a Huggie, when we were out and about, and my husband only liked the pocket nappies, so that's what we've shifted entirely to.

If I were you I'd keep a rubberized changing pad, hand sanitizer, and a wet bag in the diaper bag. Also, have you decided what to do about wipes? If you are doing cloth diapers, you might as well use cloth wipes. If you can find some Australian sites and need help, I can look at them with you. I have to imagine foreign shipping is outrageous! Do you sew at all?

Rachel LOL no I can't sew, I battled to sew a library bag at school, HOWEVER my Mum is a great seamstress and also retired.

With the wipes, I was going to just buy them and bin them but I was also thinking my sister used to use hand fulls of cotton balls and water to clean her son during nappy changes, another great cost saver as those bags of cotton balls are 99c!!!

THose wipes are sooo chemically aren't they? It's not a good idea to repeatedly put soapy stuff on a baby bum IMO.

I think I will take your advice and order about 6 Olliemates to begin with, use the throw away blue liners.

I'm using baby washcloths, flannel cloths, and a homemade spray for my wipes. I just added a few drops of tea tree oil to a spray bottle of water. Heard that tea tree oil is a great disinfectant. I love using it as a household cleaner!

Ruth teatree oil is FANTASTIC - up there with my favourites!

When DH and I were first dating he used to get a few pimples and I had him wash his face in tea tree wash and his skin cleared up in days, I have been using it during the preg too to keep the outbreaks down - works like a charm.

Rachel - I looked into another diaper system called Baby MIO and for a starter kit it was $600!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?

Then another one called Peainapod and that was something like 14.00 per nappy (that was a type of pocket nappy). PHEW!

Even $600/$38(amount per case of Huggies), you would break even at 16 cases of Huggies, so unless you plan to have your baby out of diapers at 8 months, you'd still be saving money. ;)

that's about the standard retail here for a pocket nappy, too. I had a type of sales party where the hostess gets a discount, so I ended up getting mine for about 9.00 each.

Yeah Rachel it does END UP cheaper, it's just the initial outlay that's a bit of a shock to the hip pocket.

The Olliemates are cheaper by half than the Peainapod and Baby Mio, but then I have to wonder if they are of lesser quality  :? I think best bet is to buy a sample of each and try them on bub and then decide.

I don't need any newborn stuff what-so-ever so I may just ask relitives to chip in for a nappy system for us.

I think those are wonderful plans!

I actually got some "never been used" Fluffies to try... I hope they WORK as they are only 7.00 per nappy. I got 3 for 16.50 which was a very slight saving!!!

A Mum brought them and then she forgot the idea of CD once her baby was born, so she sold them as never been used on ebay.

SO has anyone tried the FLUFFIES brand?
