My little girl (16 months)has an open cut on her knee, not big. Just a cut from falling when she was running to fast a few days ago. Now she fell again and the cut has grease from the road somehow in the cut.

Do you scrub it out? Leave it alone? I did soak her in the tub but its not coming out. Just curious. I just worry about infection.

It hurts but scrub it! Try to get out all the rocks and pieces and dirt! I fell when a kid and they took a nail brush to my knee in the ER. I needed stiches but they put a pressure banadage on me instead. A few years later I squeezed something on that same knee. I thought it was just an ugly scar! A little pebble came out wit hlots of pus!! And they had scrubbed me good! :?

I would say scrub it and put some alcohol on it so it won't get infected. Or you could also put perioxide on it because it doesn't burn as much as alcohol.

Ouch! Poor baby! I would try some water or peroxicide in a squeeze or spray bottle, that may make it feel less painful to her, if all else fails...I would contact her doctor or a nurse for advice.

Thanks moms. I sat her in her swing on her swing set and scrubbed away with dish soap. It helped to break up the black grease that somehow got in there. Some neosporian on a bandaid, (that she won't let stay on her knee) and she was good to go. A swing than a scrub worked great!

Its still pretty red today so I am just going to watch it-- and I forgot about peroxide, thats right.

Thanks again

If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, just book into the GP. I couldn't remove a splinter from DS foot once and so I just took him to the GP, who did it in no time. Actually DS behaved for him better than for me.

Oh my goodness, Aussie Mummie! That would be about a 200 dollar sliver over here! I would take my kids to the doc more if it weren't so unrealistically expensive.

I'm glad you got the cut clean, Renee. Good job! [OKOK]

Leslie, my adult cousin has a little pebble in her elbow that she got when we fell off a swing when we were little. She's now in her thirties. Can you imagine... ? Probably not pus after this long, but some serious scar tissue, I'll bet. [whatblah]

200 to see a regular doctor? that is what we'd pay for a specialist woah! Most Doctors here will do the appointments for children under 16 "bulk bill" (billed to the government) otherwise children would probably not get medical attention ($$$).

You know there is this stuff you can buy - drawing cream from the pharmacy and it actually draws foreign objects from your body... it's white and thick and it works like a treat (however not sure of the price??)

I'm glad you were able to get that out of her little knee. When I was in middle school I was running across the parking lot and fell and slid for a few feet. Both of my knees had tiny gravel embedded in them. The Dr. had to pick everyone of those out and there were lots of them. I remember I had to get a Tetnis shot too and both knees had to bandaged for like two weeks. Ouch--it hurt but not as bad as when they took the badages off and I had hair on my legs---WHOAAAAAAAAAA!!! [cry] [crwy] [crybawl] [crysad] [crytantrum] [whateww] I think that about covers it!!!!!!!
