I remember reading this when I was pregnant with our eldest, so, even though I loved the look, we never had bumper pads in the cot for either of our sons.

we didn't do bumpers either...not worth the risk IMO.

We used a bumper pad for awhile with our ds, but then they started coming out with more warnings and we took it out. As an alternative to make the crib pretty, I bought 3 different ribbons that coordinated, about 1 1/2-2in. wide and wove them tightly between the crib slats tying them on the outside in a VERY tight knot. It makes the crib cute and they haven't loosened at all in 2 years.
