I know there are certain no-nos with regards to sleeping while pregnant, but I am finding if I lay on my side even with pillows my sides HURT and I find if I lay on my back it feels like the baby is in my lungs and I can't breath properly.
Has anyone tried laying in an elevated position (laying half sitting up propped up on pillows).
I had such a bad sleep last night, I went to bed at 11pm, woke at 3am and stayed awake.

I know of women who have slept on an elevated position and have said that it was the only way they could get a decent sleep. I didn't try it myself [whatscratchinghead] but it's worth a shot. [thumbsup]

When I was pregnant I usually slept on my side, but also loved to fall asleep on the couch with a big cushion supporting my torso and my legs up and over the edge, kinda like a "V" It was comfy and I never got sore from it... And wait a minute, you were supposed to sleep like a log last night :)
[claploud] Yay the half sitting up position worked - I slept great last night FINALLY.

So glad! Yea! [claphigh] As an old labor and delivery nurse, I am glad that the back option didn't feel good! It isn't so great for baby either! :)
LOL We have the same problem...
I woke up the other night (lying on my side) and my thigh and bottom were aching and I had sharp pains too. I felt like my side had gone numb. And since that's the only position I can now sleep in... I wasn't sure what to do.
I thought of sleeping in Pauls lazy boy chair  But I don't want to sleep in the lounge...
It's worth a try I say.
Leslie yeah we have had it mentioned about the sleeping flat on the back issue here before but I still never quite understood the concept, the only thing I could figure out was that if I had diminished oxygen due to my lungs feeling compressed by the pregnancy then the baby would have diminished oxygen also (????). I also know diminished oxygen is no good for the blood, heart etc (obviously LOL)
I had NEVER heard anything like that until coming on here and seeing it mentioned and my current obstetrician certainly has never told me how to sleep. I found with the twin pregnancy I would just put my whole belly on a pillow, with a pillow behind my back and side sleep fine - with this bub, it causes problems - like they say every pregnancy is different.
I think the second (and subsequent) pregnancies are always worse...
I slept fine on my side all throughout my pregnancy with Abby.
I also had never heard not to sleep on my back. I think ultimately God is in control. Women in bible days would not have been told/known not to.
I was only told by my midwife that sleeping on my tummy would not work LOL and that I'd be uncomfortable that way ...
Renee I think if you slept on your belly you would be doing a very nice impression of a see-saw LOL.
 [rofl] You're so funny!
Update on this - I actually asked my midwife last week about this issue whether it was just paranoia or a real issue. What she told me was that there is a major blood vessel in your back and if you lay on it it can disrupt blood flow and therefore you are not transporting sufficient oxygen via the blood to the baby or yourself.
She actually told me though that I will wake up if that begins to happen, so just to continue to sleep propped up on my bean bag and pillow  . I guess it saves on a more disrupted sleep in the long run
It is so insane how comfortable this is because if I try lay on my side or lower bub moves right up under my ribs and this almost discourages her from doing this, ALTHOUGH she does sometimes get right onto my bladder.
