that's just sick. I could go on and on about this one, but I'll save it, it's too early.

First of all I am really shocked that 13% of MIDDLE SCHOOL students are sexually active! Second, the school is already giving the students condoms. Whether I agree with this or not I believe that a condom not only protects against pregnancy but also STDs. If students start taking BC pills rather then using condoms they may be preventing pregnancy but they are allowing the possibility of a sexually transmitted disease!

Since we sent our first child to middle school this year, I'm feeling a bit ill after reading this. Definitely something to keep an eye on. TFS.

That just makes me ill to think of it, although, when I was in 8th grade a girl in my class got pregnant.

AHHHHHHHH - all I wanted to do was scream when I read this.

I am in one of those moods to really get verbal.. Ok lets take God out of our schools and public buildings and allow birth control to be handed out with lunch.....AAAAHHHHH! (I am being a bit dramatic on the lunch issue, but you KWIM!!)

good grief!!!! Is this kind of thing ever going to stop!! Regardless of the parents having to give permission for the kids to go to the clinic, middle school kids are NOT old enough to be making these kinds of decisions independently! Never mind how *I* feel about teens and the pill....argh!!

Wow! It's pretty bad that the kids can get it without parent consent. It will probably cause more kids to have sex since now they will feel "protected" and not have to have there parents now. Makes me sick. I remember girls in junior high that were sexually active so i can just imagine how much worse it is now a days. *sigh*

We have a dd in middle school. I can not imagine anyone approaching her about such things!!! Who do they think they are!!?? That is just wrong!!! This makes me ill. This world is just getting gross!!
Low income families are going to see this as a blessing & quickly sign that paper. Grrrrrrrr!!!!!

There's a poll going on and the percentage that disagree with it is far higher than those that think it's okay...here's the link:

I don't have any stron gopinion on the matter, but just had to reply to the comment that low-income families will go along with this. There are plenty of wealthy people taking their children to doctors for things like birth control (breast implants, etc. too) and I'd just ask that we not define people's standpoints by the level of their wealth, because I am the single mother, head-of-household in a very low income situation, yet my judgements are not made by how much money I have (or don't have). I am confident it was just an oversight on the implication of those words, but felt like I should point it out.

My comment was not meant as hurtful. Please accept my appology if it was. We are low income also. So, I will speak for myself only then. Getting a letter from a school saying we can get free medical care for our children while at school may seem attractive, and may also seem a blessing. I just wonder if it is stated in the paperwork anywhere that I am signing away my parental rights while my child is in school. THAT is upsetting to me.

Nope, wasn't hurtful, and I can see now what you were trying to say. 'Low income families...' had just jumped out at me. No worries :)

Sad. So very sad.
Can you imagine a 6th grader trying to figure out what's going on? "I can go ahead and give in to my "boyfriend"... he says he loves me....and if the adults in my school give me birth control, they must be saying it's ok...."
it makes me want to go and hug my daughter and never let go. I never want her to feel that way.
