So I am thinking about switching ds to cloth diapers and using them on the new baby as well but I have some concerns. How hard is it to clean the poo from them? Can the baby go the whole night without a change if they are sleeping through the night? Do they save you $? Do they prevent diaper rash? What kind do you like the best? Sorry for all of the questions but I am very intrigued and excited but overwhelmed. I will have 2 in diapers in a few short months...Thanks!!!
How hard is it to clean the poo from them? Generally, not hard at all. It just falls right off into the toilet. The only time I have had issues is when kids are teething molars, when it gets messier.
Can the baby go the whole night without a change if they are sleeping through the night? Yes, but you may need to have a different, more absorbant diaper to do so. We have pocket diapers so I put a heavier insert in at night.
Do they save you $? If you have your own machines, then definitely! We live in an apartment and our laundry prices were just raised this fall, so I don't think it will for me anymore. I may have to pull mine out of cloth. : (
Do they prevent diaper rash? Yes, absolutely! Just make sure you have a diaper with a wicking layer (ie. fleece) between the absorbant part of the diaper and baby's bum.
What kind do you like the best?We use Fuzzi Bunz, which I love. However, we are having some issues with the elastic not lasting in the larger size. Oddly enough, the mediums we have are still going strong, despite having been used for a much longer time. Go figure.
Good luck making your decisions!

My ds is not in cloth, but my siblings and I (all 4 of us) were in cloth when we were little. I remember changing my sisters diapers and dumping the poo into the toilet. Seemed to work really well...I don't think my ds could use cloth because his #2 is ALWAYS runny and messy. Always has been...it's a pain!!

If the poo bothers you you can get flushable cloth diaper liners where you just peel the poo off with the liner and flush it. gdiapers incorporate this into their diaper, and kushies also makes their own version. There are also non-branded ones. I ordered these ones:

but i haven't got them in the mail yet so the verdict is out on how well they work. I plan on using them with fuzzi bunz for my eldest and some hand-me-down kushies newborns i got. I'll let you know how it goes.

How hard is it to clean the poo from them? Yeah, just dump it in the toilet, and half the time, I wouldn't even do that when the babies were on the breast. I just threw it all in the washer and let it go. I had two in cloth, and not a huge stash, so I would just do my daily laundry before the babies got up and then throw them in the washer all day, wash them during dinner and let them dry before bed. That worked for us.
Can the baby go the whole night without a change if they are sleeping through the night? Yeah, we used about 4 medium stuffers at night. (I made my stuffers and pads the same way and I used 4 just like my "night/heavy" pades at night)
Do they save you $? We did. They're not in cloth now, but I'm thinking about going back at least part time.
Do they prevent diaper rash? My kids, personally, could sit all day long in a puddle of water with "vat acid" in it and never get a rash, so I can't answer that one from a "urine" stand point, but as far as them breaking out from chemicals in the 'sposies, yeah. None of mine could use 'sposies until they were around 6 months.
What kind do you like the best? We used prefolds and wraps until they were around the 10 pound mark (we used proraps). After that, we used Kushies AIO's during the day and I used prefolds and stuffers in covers that I made at night. I had a few other various aio's and pockets, but wasn't impressed. I have some "knock off" fuzzi's and didn't like the way they fit my boys. One of them was skinny and the other was fat, LOL, and they didn't fit neither of them well.
How hard is it to clean the poo from them?
Most of the time, it just comes off. If not I am known to dunk if I need and they also have a thing called a diaper sprayer.
Can the baby go the whole night without a change if they are sleeping through the night?
Yeah, I use either a Fuzzi Bunz with a hemp insert and an infant prefold or I use a prefold with a prefold doubler covered with wool. So far no leaks for us.
Do they save you $?
I say yes after the initial cost. I calculated that disposables would cost me about $40 a month and even though I use the laundry mat at our complex it only costs me about $20-25 extra a month
Do they prevent diaper rash?
The only time we have rash problems is if I don't catch a poop and it stays on her to long, but that happened with sposies too.
What kind do you like the best?
I have a variety and I like all of them. I have pockets (Fuzzi Bunz), unbleached indian prefolds with wool covers and fitteds we use wool covers with these too.

I'm thinking about doing the same for this next baby. In the babie forum they have a whole Q&A thread, also another on cloth diapers.
