View Full Version : How did you survive the first day of Kindergarten

I am acutely aware lately that my twins will be off to Kindy in 6 months time and find I am already becoming emotional.

I feel almost like they are being taken away from me in a sense.

I know kids must grow up and we must let go, but I am so worried I am going to burst into tears in front of them because even the thought of sending them off to school makes me want to cry and cry.

They have such a happy little world here!

How do you deal with this Mothers? [crybawl]

When our eldest started school, our youngest started preschool too :o

On our eldest's first day of school, I had coffee with my mum, chatted with my mil on the phone, and turned up to pick him up 40 minutes early

When our youngest started school this year, dh took the day off

So, the three C's got me through -

Coffee, companionship, and care :D

I do see the boys every now and then throughout certain days - I do reading in our eldest son's class twice a week, I do tuckshop, iceblocks at lunch, and various other things (mother's day stalls, assemblies, etc).

And I still get there 1/4 hour early to pick them up

I keep really busy, with reading groups twice a week (soon to increase to three times a week when I start in youngest son's class), bible study once a week, and 2 days a week to clean, do laundry, shop for groceries etc.

And, of course, the best thing is to cover them, and yourself, in prayer!

You could always homeschool. I considered it.

My sons have been going to half day school for a couple years now. On the first day, I just tried to be really excited for them, and I made dh take Aiden to Kindergarten. I picked him up. Take the camera, take pics. It will take your mind off things a little?

I am getting really anxious about fall - both my older ones will be going from half day school to all day school  Packing lunches and such,

Oh well at least I will get a little more 'read/study the Bible' and 'house cleaning' time (cause usually the most I get done now is just picking up and regular stuff, never any closet organization or home improvement type things.) Who knows, I may even get a job!
