Hi,
My dd is now 14 mos old and I know that babies start temper tantrums around this age and beyond. She has not had one yet but I am hoping to know how to deal with temper tantrums before she actually has one. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with them? e.g. ignorance or talking to them, etc.? What works and what doesn't?
Thanks in advance!

I usually decide what to do depending on what my ds is having a tantrum for. If he is mad because I put the baby gate up and he can't get to the other room or because he wants something I won't give him, I just ignore him. So far, that has worked well with me. He usually stops fussing within a minute or two and comes to give me a hug and sit on my lap. If he is having a tantrum because the square block won't fit into the triangle slot or because he got a toy stuck in his basketball goal, I calmly get down on his level and show him how it is supposed to work. Usually that helps. Sometimes I have to show him a time or two and he's fine.
Basically, if he's just being cranky because he isn't getting his way, I ignore it and it has worked for me. If he's having a problem, I help him in a calm manner.
Although Preston is my 3rd baby, he is the only one of mine that has taken tantrums. These are the "strategies" I read about and I've been impressed with the outcome.
He's almost 19 months now and doesn't have as many tantrums as he used to! [dance] It was that 15-16 month age that he would have one about every other day. [whatwacko]
Good luck with your baby! Maybe she won't ever have one!
