View Full Version : What is your pre-schoolers favorite book?
NZMummy 09-20-2007, 05:29 PM We love reading in our household - and regularly get a new pile of kid's books from the library. We recently found "Knuffle Bunny" by Mo Willems in the library. My 10 month old absolutely adores it (she loves both listening to it and seeing the pictures). We just have to say a few lines out of the book for her to get excited. Does anyone else want to share their kiddies favourites. We also loved "Clever Daddy" by Madeleine Stewart. My three year old currently loves the "Hairy Maclary" series.
kanaclark 09-20-2007, 06:15 PM this "cheap book" we got at the dollar store called "Bumby the 4x4" I think it was written in Britain or somewhere, it's got a lot of "our" and "re" words in it, like colour and centre, but the kids love it.
Blessed 2 B Zoe 09-20-2007, 06:22 PM Yep that is British we are weirod over here with our language it confuses many people.
Sinead does not really have a fravourite book @ all, she has a load of books probally about 30-50 of her own. On top of this we borrow from the libary and she gets one from school each week. It pays off though she has just gone 4 and already learning to read and she knows some words, I am a very proud mommy.
savedbygrace 09-20-2007, 06:44 PM Abby has a lot of favorites
Kitten's first full moon (very cute, i like it as well)
Max Lucado's Hermie and friends (christian based, with beautiful pictures)
Any dr. seuss books
She likes clifford books
PianoMama 09-20-2007, 10:53 PM Trevor likes anything that rhymes:
- Dr. Seuss
- Moo, Baa, La, La, La
- Peas of West Manor (think veggie tales)
Cheeseburger 09-20-2007, 11:42 PM Katherine loves this book "five little ducks"... it has a button you press for each page as the ducks quack and it says "Quack quack quack quack quack". she thinks that's great LOL...
~Tara~ 09-21-2007, 10:24 AM Mine love ANYthing we'll let them read.
My 3.5 yr old takes various books to bed with her every night. It may be Dr. Seuss, it may be Curious George, it may be the Science Encyclopedia, Ping or Madeline.
The 20mo old is right in there with her. He will tote around some Bible story books we have 'thread bare' kind of things now, our FIAR books, whatever library books are around.
He and sis both carried around cookbooks from the library for a month! LOL
They just love books. The littles have no favorites, other than modeling what the elders prize. (Narnia, Hobbit, LOTR...and their past faves of Stuart Little, Peter Pan...)
My son doesn't really have any particular favorites right now. He loves books and anything is good usually. But he particularly likes rhyming books. He is getting really good at 'filling in the blanks' if we read all but the last word of a sentence in a familiar book.
We have "If you Give a Mouse a Cookie" and several of the spinoffs...he went through several weeks where all he wanted was those. (If you give a pig a pancake, If you give a moose a muffin, etc.)
edited for sp.
LadyLavender 09-21-2007, 06:13 PM "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus" and "Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late" by Mo Willems
"The Grouchy Ladybug" by Eric Carle
"A House for Hermit Crab" by Eric Carle
"Stop That Pickle!" by Peter Armour (this one is funny even for grownups!)
"God Gave Us You" and "God Gave Us Two" by Lisa Tawn Bergren
"People" by Peter Spier (great to help kids learn about all the different sizes, shapes, etc. of people)
Any of the "Skippyjon Jones" books by Judy Schachner (you will enjoy reading these aloud!)
Any of the Maisy books by Lucy Cousins (for littler ones)

Ditto this!! My kids love love love books!! Anything they can get their hands on!! DD prefers "princessy" stuff (as she calls it) and Jon loves Wiggles and a little hardback Bible story that is getting worn out over the past four years..lol. I am soooo glad my kids love to read. :0D
ChamomileFriend 09-24-2007, 10:26 AM Alex loves "Corduroy" and "The Giving Tree".
SaraSchlick 09-25-2007, 02:25 PM My DS LOVES books of any size and shape! His current favorite is one we checked out from the library called "Llama, Llama Red Pajama" It really is a cute book.

TXMommy 09-27-2007, 09:16 PM DS has one called ABC's of Jobs that he always enjoys looking at by himself or having read to him. Other favorites are Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Franklin books, anything about doctors or hospitals.
DoubleH 10-05-2007, 03:10 PM My daughter has definite favorites and then some she really doesn't like LOL. I can get tired of the favorites and so I'll try one of the others, "You wanna read this one?" "No! Help Mommy book!" Her favorite, a Little Golden Book called "We Help Mommy". She also loves any Curious George, Corduroy, Green Eggs and Ham...
mumof3boyz 10-18-2007, 08:31 PM Our boys both love rhythmic books like Dr. Seuss, Berenstein's A Book, etc. They both love Curious George as well. Blake has mostly moved on to Franklin, Chuck E, Clifford, etc. One of the favorites for both at an early age is/was Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb by Dr. Seuss. Whenever we go to the library, Blake picks out the Geronimo Stilton books (stories about a mouse by that name, not sure of the author), they're more for 8-10 year olds, but the text is colorful & varied and the pictures quite captivating. He'll literally spend an hour looking at one!
Timmys mom 10-23-2007, 10:39 AM Timmy loves Dr Suess too. The green eggs and ham book he can practically recite. It's so cute to hear him "read" it. He even does the hand motions that they do i nthe book.
