He's only 18 months! [cry] Preston has learned how to fling himself over the side of his crib and playpen. He's been sleeping in his "big boy bed" for a couple days/nights now. That first night was tough, trust me!

How old were your babies when they graduated to a bigger bed?

My son was 18 months too when one night we said our prayers and tucked him in his baby bed and by the time I got back into the den he was behind me. Scared me half to death!! Best of luck! Stephanie

my daughter was 17 months. she kept trying to climb out of her crib, so we switched her to a big bed. she never got out, not even to get her soothie off the floor. my son was a different matter, he was 2 and 9 months, and we forced him out. he was almost to long to sleep in it. we had to take the crib to mil house and when he got home he really didn't care, and moved to his bed. my other daughter is 18 months, and i am not ready for her to be in a bed, but if she starts to climb out then we will move her.

Franklin was right around 18 months, too, when he fell out of his crib. I never saw him trying to climb out, so I figured we had at least a few more months.

Always a hard step I know. Hang in there mommy. It sounds like the safest place for him. I can just picture him flipping over the crib rail, and his sense of freedom afterwards.

All but one of my children were in a toddler bed by the time they hit 18 months. I think my little girl will do the same, we'll see. My second son loved the crib, we moved him after the age of 2.

My 27 month old is still in his cot. This is only because he seems happy there and hasn't climbed out yet. If he had climb out, I would certainly have moved him immediately to the bed. It is a big sized crib, so he has heaps of room. I want to move him into the "big boy bed" well before #2 arrives in October. I just have to get organised with buying sheets (and also get over our latest case of flu - so that I can handle the issues that might result around keeping him in bed). The scary thing for me is that he will be able to get out and wander around getting into everything when we are asleep. My MIL tells a story of being woken in the middle of the night to loud bangs and crashes to find my hubby playing with the pots and pans on the kitchen floor  .

DS was about 26 months when I moved him out - straight into a double bed! MIL had a fit about that - she thought he was way too young to be in a big bed, but he never got out, or even fell out. But a couple months later we got a toddler bed, 'cuz that double was actually our guest bed, and I wanted it back, plus to have both boys in one room was simpler. He still very rarely gets out, unless he's had a nap and is not at all ready to sleep for the night. Then he just quietly plays around the house, until dh or I notice him. He's a sly one!

Both my boys were 20 months old when we moved them from the crib. My oldest went right into a twin bed with no rail. My youngest now two, his crib converts into a toddler bed so we did that, but he still has to have the rail.....or he falls out constantly

Ash never climbed out of bed, but we made a big deal of turning his crib into the toddler bed and he got brand new Thomas bedding. We have had more issues with keeping him in it though. I had to put a door latch on the inside door knob so he can't just walk out if he wants to.

Before that, one night he walked out about 20 times in a row!

My youngest began climbing out of bed at 15 months. [whatwacko] One night I watched him from the hallway do it ( for the third time in a row in the middle of the night) [whateww] It scared the beejeebers out of me! [whateeeeeksign] He was the youngest and was younger than any of the others! ( 18 months for #1 to make room for #2, 2 years, and 2 years )

Ethan started his big boy bed at 11 months....refused to ever use the crib and could toss himself out at 7 months! Yikes! So the doc said to put a large mattress on the floor with pillows all around and that's what he did and for the first time at a year, he slept through the night! Hallllllelujah! He's done great for a year now!
