A book I recently read had some ideas, It's Lisa Whelchel's Creative Correction.

You could have her memorize some verses about lying, here are some that Lisa Whelchel lists,

Proverbs 12:19
Proverbs 12:22
Proverbs 21:6
Leviticus 19:11
Psalm 34:13

She also suggests putting hotsauce or lemon juice on the child's tongue. Just a tiny bit on the end of their tongue when you catch them lying.

another thing you could do would be to reward telling the truth. If she goes a day without lying, she gets to put a sticker on a chart, or money in a jar. After getting a certain number of stickers or pennies she gets a date with you or dad, or goes to buy a toy.

Those are great ideas to stop lying. I tell my kids that if they tell the truth about something, even if they know it will get them in trouble, then the punishment will not be as harsh. We praise them for telling the truth and punish them hard when they are caught lying about something.

Yep, lying is a big no-no. We do the same - stricter punishment (usually loss of treats/special things) if they lie about doing something wrong. Thankfully, our boys are usually truthful and know that we'll be fair if they do the wrong thing (esp. if it's a genuine accident) but tell the truth.

Lisa Whelchel's book you suggested above has been so helpful to me. I love how her focus is on scripture. I also reccomend Dare To Discipline, by Dr. James Dobson. He also has a new series of videos available that look very helpful and are based on his books. I haven't seen them, but some people might prefer watching as to reading.
One thing I started praying for when my daughter was about 2 (you can figure out why I was inspired to pray this at this age), was for an obedient heart. I often pray that for myself also. I have really seen God work in her heart. She is 9 now and God has truly answered my prayers. She truly wants to please God and has an obedient heart, not because of my doing, but His work in her.

Good verses. Yeah, we have talked to Aiden about telling the truth and how God knows our hearts and wants us to tell the truth.

I tell you I used to lie. Now that I have children, they have made me 'honest'. I never realized I was telling 'white lies' pretty frequently. I want to set a good example and sometimes it's hard, but as long as I am on a path of positive growth I feel good. :D
