My ds is 7 and will be going into 2nd grade next school year. He still likes Sesame Street, Blue's Clues, Dora, and Little Bill. We are thinking that he is getting a little too old for these as they are more for preschoolers but we're not sure what direction we should point him in. He was teased a bit for talking about Sesame Street, etc. at school so I'm sure it would be worse in the next school year.

So, what is out there that your kids like?

My son is five and he likes star wars. I do know what you mean tho. My girls were a bit like that, watching the under fives stuff on the 'baby' channel. They like thunder birds, Spongebob, which I think can be hilarious. Lazy Town, Backyardigans.... Ive started reading to them alot more since starting homeschooling. My Sophie (sometimes) likes listening to me read from the Narnia Chronicles. Roal Dahl is really good sometimes too. We were rolling on the floor laughing at one of his books this weekend. The Vicar of Nibbleswicke, it is so funny. Some might actually find it a bit rude but.... Anyway. They are liking Maya and Miguel. They like Dora, which I can barely tolerate. Batman is a bit more grown up. If I can think of anything else Ill let you know. :D

My son, Alex, is almost 10 and would never admit it to any of his friends, but when Preston is watching Clifford or Arthur or something on public TV, Alex is right there all into it too not even looking away! [badtv] Preston is only 18 months!

Peyton is 6 and she loves the younger shows! Anything on PBS Kids she is allowed to watch which even had Telletubbies and Calliou. We almost never let her watch any Nick (sponge bob, fairly odd parents, danny phantom) but we do allow Nick Jr (dora, blues clues, diego). She loves Noggin, too!

I won't push my daughter to get into TV unless it is faith strengthening or educational. My thought is if her friends are teasing her about watching younger shows as opposed to older and more worldly ones...then how are they going to be with peer pressure later in life. She is learning at this age that she should do what is right in God's eyes and not what is popular with her friends.

How funny! My 8 yr old ds does the exact same thing w/my 15 mo!! They would be so embarrassed if their friends found out. [rotfl]

Aaron likes to watch Animal Planet and anything about dinosaurs! Especially on Discovery Channel when they have those dino specials. He also loves Full House. As far as cartoons, he watches Foster's Home and SpongeBob. But he is also addicted to his playstation so I really have to limit his time spent there or he would do nothing else!

is your 7y/o the oldest? he could feel like that is the only thing he and his younger brother have in common. I'd just talk to him, see how he feels about it. If he understands that most kids his age watch other shows, and is ok with him liking other things, i don't see a problem with it. gabe is six and he loves to watch teletubies with his nine month old brother. it's something that they can do together and he understands that he has to do "baby" things to do stuff with him. I wouldn't worry too much , just talk to your son.
