in 4 weeks my son is going in for surgery. HE is our first to go for anything major. he is having his tonsils and adenoids removed because he suffers from sleep apnea. he is only 4. i was wondering what we should expect, and how long it might take to recover. HE goes for his pre op with his doctor in 2 weeks, and he has to have blood drawn. Jake also has SID, which will make the whole thing that much more difficult.

All I can say is that it is so much easier on children than adults. I had it done a couple of years ago and I was out of work for three weeks and really about 5 weeks to get back to par.
Good luck to your son and to you!!

honestly, you will be worried for nothing.
Bri just had the T&A in June. He was 20 months when he had it done.
the amounts of icecream, fluids etc. they tell you to have on hand will NOT last the time they say. GET MORE.
and honestly, with Bri's texture issues, they got BETTER once he had it done.
His tonsils and adenoids were large and they said the pressure of them pushing out were causing certain textures to be "avoided".
where we thought he had sensory issues (us and the doc) and had hearing/speech problems (again, us and the doc) they all worked themselves out very quickly following the surgery.

thanks for your input.
jake has also been in speech, because he is somewhat unclear when he speaks, but his speech pathologist thinks that because everything is so large, once removed he will also be easier to understand. Hopefully he will start to sleep better also, he has not slept throught the night since he was around 2.
his ent said he should be off school for 2 weeks, so i booked the 2 weeks off, but many have told me that their children were up and running way before that.

Hey I had that done was I was young because of speech and hearing problems and such. They also put in gromits with me and I am not sure what recovery time is but I know that my speech and hearing improved after they had done it. I will pray that everything goes ok though and that recovery is speedy.
