I wanted to know what your opinions are on exersaucers. We just bought the Evenflo Mega Circus and then read that these are not recommend because of developmental delays. I'm not sure what to believe with everything that is out there. I just wanted to know what you ladies thought about them. Did you use them? If so, did you notice any delays?

We will not leave him in this unattended btw. Nor will we leave him in it for long periods of time.

Thanks for your help.

We had an exersaucer for both our boys. It gave them a chance to be upright (change in position for them) before they could sit up on their own. I didn't notice any delays but it's also been 4 1/2 yrs. since we used one! My guess is that delays might be if a child is left in them for an extended time period with no interaction from others.

Ditto Janell....we have one for both of our boys and they use/d them for short supervised periods...like while I emptied the dishwasher next to me....20 minutes a couple times a day....never had any delays...both are very early in motor development and they LOVED being able to "stand" put weight on their legs and it actually helps them to build leg muscle for walking and crawling! Gave those tushies of theirs a nice break! LOL

No delays for my ds. He liked being upright as well. You have to make sure the seat your child sits in as at the proper height so their feet touch the 'ground' the right way: not hanging from the seat and being unable to touch the ground and not too low either. KNIM??

I believe that the delays are when baby is left in there for long periods of time. It mostly has to do with their hips I believe....so, as long as you're not going to leave him for hours at a time, I think it's an awesome thing!

Yeah i think it's about long periods left there too.... some parents will just plop their kid in it and leave them!!

We borrowed an exersaucer from some friends but katherine hated it and would start crying after like 3 minutes, so we gave it back LOL. Not everyone's cup of tea I guess. she prefers being in her playpen with her regular toys.

I think extended stays in them are not good. I do know that walkers are NOT recommended for kids of any age, however.

My dd loved her exersaucer, she loved being upright and playing with the various toys on it. Also it helped to put her somewhere to 'stay put' if I was making supper.

I'm not sure if it caused delays or not. We used one and it was great. That is how I took showers and went to the bathroom! They are only used up to so many inches high (30") I think. You are not supposed to use them if their feet are flat on the bottom of it at the highest position.

Ash did crawl late and walk late, but I don't think it was because of that. He had a walker too and he never walked in it.

We loved ours and were sorry when he was too big to keep using it. He wasn't walking yet. I think he was only about 10 months old when we quit.

It also helped him go poo. If we had somewhere to go, I could put him in it for about 10 minutes and he would go poo so then he didn't go when we were out and about.
