Hello Ladies, I am trying to pick out a new Bible and was hoping for some help. What type of Bible do you have? What version? What kind-Study, Devotional, Parallel, etc.? I really like the NASB version and now I just need to figure out what type to go with. I saw a McArthur Study Bible online that I might get. Any thoughts?

I love the Life Application Bible. It comes in many versions. I used to read NIV, but mostly am NASB now. I have a good parallel bible with KJV beside Amplified and NIV beside NASB. It is helpful when I am rememebering a verse and I am not sure what version I am remembering...

I also have a Life Application Study Bible NIV. I love it!! I grew up with KJ, and wouldn't have had it any other way, but I find it easier to understand & DH is able to understand the NIV better.

I have an NRSV study bible, and I really like it. Dh has NIV. The Life Application Study Bible sounds interesting...I'll have to look at one next time I am at the store. I am actually going to have to replace my bible soon too.

I started with the NIV and now the pastor at the church we call home uses the Amplified Bible, so I have one of those, too, to make comparisions. Husband has an NIV and KJ.

oh..you mean which "kind" kind...what layout..no help there

I don't even know what all we have presently :?

We have some old boring, plain jane kind of KJV and NKJV
The kids have NIV, 2 different styles .. wait, maybe 3, I forget if the one is an NIV ?? anywho.. Adventure Bible and a Backpack Bible

We have 2 New Geneva Study Bibles, of I forget which translation at the moment.
NAS basic kind of thing. A New Living translation study Bible (not to my liking mind you)
and hub finally got his thin line ESV
now if the REST of us could get an ESV we'd be happy campers

but as far as style/study help stuff...sorry, can't help ya there

Go with Life Application Study Bible!!! It rocks...it's helped me sooo much when I've had questions about a certain verse. I don't have concordances or commentaries but I rely on my LASB a lot. I use the NASB because I am very literal and this version is quite literal too! Hope you find what you're looking for soon...it's so fun to get a new Bible.

i have a NKJV "Reformation study bible".... my dh has KJV thompson's chain reference that he uses... and a KJV/Amplified parallel... we also each have a mini type bible that can travel... mine NKJV, his KJV... katherine has an "old testament stories" cardboard book LOL!

At the bookstore here that sells bibles, they have a chart that shows you how close a version is to word for word, or thought for thought. This is just a piece of advice, but, seriously, stay away from the extreme "thought for thought" bibles... God's thoughts are higher than our thoughts ;)

We have the first Bible I ever got(that one does sit on a shelf, Im afraid it will tear) and it is KJ.
I have: NIV womens devotional Bible
NIV moms devotional Bible
and my favorite, the NIV Archaeology Bible. Its awesome, ever wonder what a particular building or place looked like? Well, there are pictures and drawings in this Bible that show things like that. There are also pages through out the chapters that tell about certain historical events that happened at the same time the books of the Bible were being written.
The rest of the family has a NIV each dh's is a study Bible, dd's is the Precious Moments Bible that she has had for 10 years and refuses to trade in, and ds's is the NIV Adventure Bible in metalic silver, of course!

I have the Amplified version. I like it because it really does do a good job giving you a lot of words to explain things. But I'd really like the get a KJV too.

One of every kind!!! LOL!!!

Seriously, I have a KJV, NKJV, NIV, NASV, Living translation, the Message, ESV.....hmm...okay, maybe not every kind! But a lot!

I have the Macarthur study Bible. Yep, I like it. I also have 2 Parralel Bibles that I enjoy using when really digging in to study. The Amplified Version, like it, but haven't used it a lot.

My basic daily reading, NKJV. Hubby likes NIV. Our pastor is strictly KJV....so I use them all!!!

well, currently, I'm using The Message. I love it! dh and i have tons of bibles, though. Yes ladies, go and fire away... I am using a paraphrase version. I find I am able to let go of the secondary doctrine issues and just let Father speak to my heart this way. (Having been through Bible college, I tend to get caught up in the minor issues rather than getting to know Father. I think that is what hours of doctrinal debate can do to you!)

I really like my mom's devotional bible (NIV). I also have one of the new archaeological bibles. This Bible is really great if you like finding out about the historical background and the geography of the Bible. I am a history major, so this is a fascinating way to study the bible.

I have a bunch of different ones depending on what kind of studing i am doing. I love my parallel bibles because i can see multiple translations. I also have a Strongs hebrew/greek dictionary and multiple word studys. For personal reading i like the Holman Christian Standard Bible for accuracy and The Message bible for everyday relations. I always keep a MOPS NIV Mothers Dev bible in my purse for those times that i HAVE time to read my bible ;)

I have my The Evidence Bible KJV from Way of the Master that I got when I graduated. I also use mostly my New Century for the ease of reading (like the Message) and gee I have all others sitting on my Bible Book shelves for reference but those first 2 I use mostly. The Evidence Bible has lots of references and stuff so I really like it. The NCV also comes in Magazine, Biblezine Becoming for Women, form that I love. They are made by Nelson. I also got my 10y the Teen Girls version. She is not a teen but she likes to read it. It has issues on self confidence, and proper modest clothing. And all those girl things

Hope this helps you out. There are so many. It really depends on what you like when you see/read it. Then there are the debates on which ones are accurate and not....
