View Full Version : Back in the hospital with high BP - Natural induction ideas?
believeNgrace 08-04-2007, 09:17 PM For the past 2 weeks, I've been battling exgtreme high bp. We've had to visit the midwife twice a week now instead of once a week.
Baby is fine and is ok.
At our 36 week prenatal check up on Friday, my bp was sky high once again 152/102, so back to the hospital we were sent for a 24 hour monitoring. All lab work and urine tests came back ok.
The "I" word was discussed...."induction", of which I'm pretrified about and am trying to resist. Am I being selfish for the baby?
DH and I were able to "borrow" a week if I promised to be on bedrest, off work (4 weeks prematurely), and no activity what so ever. DH is taking bp every 2 hours and we are reporting to the midwife at the end of each day the readings.
I do not want a pitocin induction as I feel God has this little one's birthday planned, not via induction.
Am I being disobedient by "avoiding" induction due to high BP? I'm a first timer, so really am not sure what to do; however, DH and I prayed about the 37 week induction and both agreed, it was not a peaceful decision.
Given I'll be 37 weeks next week and battling high BP, do you have any natural induction suggestions? Should I try and wait it out and not do anything invasive yet?
I have heard of Raspberry Leaf Tea, Evening Primrose, BD, and nipple stimulation to help induce naturally.
I continue to pray on borrowed time for answers.
God bless you for any suggestions or simply, prayer.
breezykc2 08-04-2007, 09:25 PM Okay, I would personally avoid alllllll natural/home remedy inductions as they can really increase the strength of the contractions and hurt the baby if you are not being monitored every step of the way.....
I delivered my first little boy at 36 weeks and half way through, my contractions flat-lined...so they doped me up with the max pit level they could....I had no pain killers or edpidurals and I consider myself to be a wusy! LOL....no problems handling the contractions and neither did my little boy. He was perfect and didn't even need the NICU at all.....I realize every little person is different!
I would personally DO the pit and induce now...the BP thing is a scary thing....what is more important...a couple days monitoring breathing if necessary, or a baby not having his mommy?! I don't mean to scare you, but it is very dangerous for you and the baby (even though they look fine) for your BP to be that high, especially you! I wrestled with the BP's you're having my last trimester too....my friend did as well and refused induction until she nearly stroked out and they forced her into one in the ER......we almost lost her and the baby at that point....
You're right, God does have this baby's Bday planned...and sometimes that is the induction date! I kind of look at it like the joke of the guy who got to heaven and asked God why he didn't save him from drowning...and God said, I sent a boat, then a helicopter....etc....and you said no....
Sometimes He works in mysterious ways! Truly not trying to be mean-spirited! Just sharing what I know and have experienced! Many prayers for you and your little one!!
stephwhiz 08-04-2007, 11:46 PM I too would do the Pitocin induction if your midwife recommends it. I think God has given her the knowledge to know when the time is right for your baby to be born. I had Pitocin with both of mine and am so glad I did or it would have been so much more stressful on both of them.
Best of luck!
buttercup_97140 08-05-2007, 01:07 AM I am sorry you are having to deal with these issues first time around. I understand how PIT can seem very scary and something you don't want. I had a home birth with our DD, our first, and had Noah, our second, at the hospital with a PIT induction. I wish I could have gone natural with Noah, but it just wasn't what we could have done if we wanted to try intervention, but I don't think we took his birthday plans away from the Lord. The Lord lead us to each and every doctor we saw through prayer and circumstances.
The Lord also expects us to be good stewards of this life and what he gives us, and sometimes that means taking the knowledge he gives us through our doctors /midwives and making an education decision. The Lord knows your baby's birthday, he has always known it, but he knows if it will be that day because of induction or natural progression of your pregnancy.
Personally, I would probably be like you and try and see if things get better, but I would induce if they didn't improve. Yes, you want your baby to be healthy when he/she is born, and that may seem like waiting would make that come true, but if you are ill, that is not the best for baby.
I would encourage you to be careful in thinking that "natural" is God's only way. He gave us minds to think and make decisions, and I know he would want you to be wise with the information he has given you.
Please keep us updated! I will keep you and Dh and your sweet little one if my prayers!
Blessings,
Amber
4HisGlory 08-05-2007, 02:11 AM I agree with the other ladies. Your midwife is the person God has placed in your life and if you trust her as a medical professional, and she has had experience with this type of circumstances before, I would go for it. The ultamate goal is a healthy mom and healthy baby. When I was making the decision whether to ignore my md advice or not to go on early maternity leave (4 weeks also) I had a conversation with myself and God. I asked myself if something was to happen to my baby or me what would I blame, what regrets would I have, and from there I trusted God he would work out the details. I don't regret my decision to stop work early, just as I don't think you would regret the PIT if need be..but if you wait too long, you might. Anyways praying for peace in your heart for what you decide and a very healthy baby girl and mommy. I am so excited you are so close to d-day! What a blessing this has been for you and me
