My Julie has been getting headaches and feeling unwell for sometime now. Im certain it started when they went back to school a few months ago. She's got a banging migraine right now. Ive given pain relief and cold water to drink. She was shivering and I think she has a bit of a fever (cant find that thermometer). Anyone have any other advice to give about migraines?

Gen, I have never experienced a migraine, but I have talked to people who say that sometimes light can affect them and make them worse. I don't know. I will be praying for you and relief for your little girl.

Gen,
My 12 y/o son and I both experience migraines... and Winnie is right - light does affect most people with migraines; as them being very sensitive to it. The best thing, besides pain relief is the darkest room in the house (I use an eye-cover, or wear my sunglasses if I can't go lay down) and lots of rest. Sometimes a cold pack on my head helps as well. Trying to stay as relaxed as possible. Keep a journal of when the headaches come - day, time, what she's had to eat or last time of eating (as headache could come on from not eating regularly), or different smells she's been in contact with (candles, perfumes, cleaners, etc.) - journal everything - stress levels to happiness level.
After having CatScan, MRI, MRA, and blood work done - they eventually put both my son and I on migriane medication. I've been on different medications since I was in High School and my son started his last year.
You had stated that you think the headaches began when she started school a couple of months ago. You may want to make sure the school is being evaluated for espestos (sp?); and ask if they have started using a new cleaning agent in the school. Has their water pipes been checked for bacteria levels, or rust in the water. Unfortunately there are so many things that can cause bad headaches.
I will be praying for Julie and hope these headaches supside ASAP.
I hope this helps - don't hesitate to PM me if you'd like to chat further about this!

I too suffer from migraines. Thankfully, this last month I haven't had one...but this pregnancy has been pretty rough on me with them.
One thing that helps me sometimes (not always) is light massage on the base of my neck. I have used this as a last result on occasion. It usually only works when the migraine actually began as a "tension" headache that I let get out of hand.
Perhaps school has overwhelmed her more this year and she is experiencing more tension resulting in migraines? Just a thought. I know stress definitely affects how many I get per month.
I hope this improves for her and will continue to be praying as well!

Hey Gen.. I will be praying for DD..! Just a question, has she had her eyes checked? I would have an eye exam done & then if she still has the severe headaches I would see a Dct.
Praying!!

Thank you all so much. She took a nap, heard her sister go out to play and shouted 'wait!!' ran out to play. Thought she was fine. I should have told her to stay in but I didnt. She came in and her head ache was worse. She had a high fever. Makes me think she's got a virus this time around. They were homeschooled for a year before going back so I know the pressure of these changes has gotten to her. She's been feeling unwell, nausious for weeks now. Not unwell enough to keep her in, but yk. anyway, thank you all.

My 9 year old ds has migraines. He used to get them atleast once a month but they have become less frequent since we visited a ped. neurologist and come some great info. First of all ds has all kinds of alleries so his daily maintence drugs are a must. Also we have cut way back on choc., processing foods and caffeine. All of these trigger migraines. We too have noticed that when school is in session the migraines are worse. I think it is the mold that is in the heating and air system at school.
When he does get a migraine I give him Advil and a a migraine headache patch which helps relieve the pain. He then usually throws up and lies down in his room with all the blinds pulled and doors closed. He always falls asleep and takes a nice long nap. When he wakes up he feels much better but drained.
I'll be praying for the heachaches to go away. :D
