I just realised today I only have 16 weeks to go until my caesarian (I have a low lying placenta so cannot have a vaginal delivery) - wow, it's so far and yet so close and our nursery isn't even set up it's the "box" room at the moment, the cot is in pieces, I haven't washed any linen or brought the baby a chest of drawers LOL... hey! Pleanty of time!
I remember as soon as I got pregnant the first time I put the cot up and put sheets in it LOL... oh dear! I think it's somewhat less... not magical, but almost less pedantic the second time around
Does anyone look back on how they were in their first pregnancy and laugh at themselves? I was so cute, no wonder I got so many "knowing" smiles from other mothers

I think I was the same for the first and second... But I know i will be more laid back with this one.
We didn't get Abbys room finished until about a week before she was due   And I didn't pack my hospital bag until I was about 35 or 36 weeks
This time around I want it all ready earlier. I want to have everything sorted before I get to 32 weeks... so I don't have much time left. The pains are just getting too much and I'm so looking forward to hopefully sleeping in a bit in the last month and not having a lot of stuff to do. I want to be able to sleep or rest whenever I need to. YEAH RIGHT like that's going to happen now that I have a toddler HAHA

Speaking of hospital bags.. with my first it was packed at 30 weeks.... with my second I put some stuff in a bag a week before he was born!
the only thing I have done so far is buy a few extra clothes for the baby, some extra new bunny rugs and started stocking up on maternity sanitary wear.
I think this time around I just look at the calander and think "WOAH! Is that the date!" and last time I was obsessing over every minute detail of foetal development and absolutely EVERYTHING LOL... classic... I mean now, I get my pregnancy development email, but before I was every night POURING over baby development books and pregnancy & childbirth books....
What did everyone else do

I think that I'm a "classic" first time mom then. Reading pregnancy books is a hobby that I basically do for entertainment. LOL. I get kicks out of washing and folding baby clothes, sewing cloth diapers, making nursing pads, collecting baby stuff, discussing the baby endlessly with other people and reading for HOURS on the internet about the pros and cons of different ways of cloth diapering. Oh and fetal movement is the ultimate. I'm always poking at the baby because I love to feel him/her move under my fingers.
LOL. :)
Expectantmommy, HOW do you make nursing pads?

Well, you can either use receiving blankets or soft flannel. It's recommended to wash the flannel before use to make it even softer. Also, I think that cotton would be ideal. You cut it into circles 5 inches in diameter. (My cereal bowl works well to trace around) Then you just take the 4 circles and handstitch them together around the edge and just zigzag a few times around when you're down to finish it off.
I got a bunch of free flannel, so I think that I may make some more. Thanks for reminding me of it by asking about it!

I think with the first you just have so much more time to think about, pack and organize baby stuff. This last time around, most of my organizing was pretty much last minute just b/c you don't have as much time and for me it was trying to find room for all the stuff, it all seemed a little overwhelming so I left it until I felt I could deal with it!
But it is so much fun waiting for your new arrival, whether it is your first, second, third etc.
Enjoy :)

Decorating and getting ready is one of my favorite parts of being pregnant. I always started as soon as I found out boy or girl. I would be done so early I'd have to think of more to do just to keep busy. I just love that kind of thing. For a long time I seriously considered starting a nursery decorating business. Baby stuff is heart-wrenchingly adorable! I love it all!! [lovingsmiley]

Irishmum... that is so the truth - I am sometimes so caught up with doing some art and craft or playing with the twins or cleaning - the time factor definately does play a part the second time around ...
Sometimes  I even forget I am pregnant until I feel the baby kick when I am having fun with the twins
It is still just as exciting (I didn't mean it isn't  ), and perhaps even more so because I have had two wonderful children and I know what magic is in store when the new baby is here.
Oh joylynn if that is what you want to do then DO IT (with the nursery decorating)... that sounds fantastic.

It'll happen, don't stress! Prayers coming your way! And I laugh at myself all the time...I've been reading so many books and trying to get ready, this pregnancy is going by SO fast, I cannot believe I'll be 15 weeks soon! Yikes!

I am totally feeling underprepared for #2. I always say I m going to wash up the infant seat or pull the clothes out and get them ready but something always comes up. I looked at DH today and said we are going to have another baby next month, and then cried. Mostly hormones. But part of it because there is not a single thing ready for #2 yet and I feel guilty. At 32 weeks with #1 everything was ready I even had the diapers bought.
It was so good to hear that others have some of the same feelings.

Me too!!! Are we horrible or what?? I'm so much more lax this time around. As much as I'd like to blame our unpreparedness (is that even a word??) on not knowing if it's a boy or girl yet, I can't. I'd so be lying! I think the most we've done so far is buy a going-home onsie/pajama thing.
We swore we wouldn't do this with the second child, but I think it's inevitable. With the first, you've never done it before, so every single step is new and exciting. But with the second, although the major things are still exciting (finding out what you're having, feeling the baby kick, etc), you've been there, done that, so the whole learning process is cut out.
