My twin boys are halfway potty trained. They pee in the toilet, but poop in their pants. My younger twin will wait until he gets his bedtime pull up on and poop in those, the older one always finds a place to hide and poops in his underwear, then comes waddling to find me and tell me, it's always messy, too. They know they should go in the toilet, but they still don't. Did I mention they are 3 years old (LOUD SCREAM).

(Deep breath) Ok, now that I have calmed down, has anyone else had this dilemna and successfully ended this problem? If so, I would LOVE to hear from you.

You know what? One of my four did that. She was three, also. Here's what I believe that God was telling me while I was dealing with that frustration; Courtney was a little anxious about pooping in the toilet and the last thing she needed was for me to flip out at her about it. I really wanted to get upset because I didn't understand why she was doing it. I believe the Lord told me to be very patient and to just keep reminding her in a relaxed and loving way where the poop goes and not to get upset about it. I used pull-ups to make my life easier, which helped me to be patient in waiting for her to finally 'get it'. I would remind her in the beginning of the day that she should make sure the poop goes in the toilet today, and then each time she pooped her pull-up, I'd tell her to try and get the poop in the toilet next time. During this time I really did relax and I stopped expecting so much out of her (because the Lord told me I was misjudging the situation  ), and I found ways (not making a big deal about it) where I'd have the older kids show Courtney their poop in the toilet and have them act like they were proud of themselves. One day, Courtney just did it without even telling us about it first. It took a little while, but it was nice to totally rid ourselves of the tension while we were waiting. It also made Courtney feel better about herself and more confident in trying when we stopped pressuring her.

Good luck, girlfriend. Remember, you did diapers for years and you're more than halfway there in getting them pottytrained. You're doing great, and so are they. They'll get it pretty soon.

My ds is 4, he does pretty good with the peeing, but does not poop in the toilet either. We have been using pull ups too, but they are just getting so expensive! Anyway the last 2 nights we have had him sleep in underwear and he was dry when he woke up....yeaahhh!!!! This is a major milestone for us! My ds has some development delays, he is very delayed in speech so he doesn't tell us when he needs to use the bathroom. I know how frustrating it can be, but I just wanted to encourage you and I know they will get it soon!

You are not alone. :D All 4 boys peed in the potty fairly easy, but the other was another thing entirely! All mine were at least 3 to 3 years and four months before that was a regular endeavor! Don't even ask about how long bedtime accidents went on! I wouldn't want to discourage you further! Don't worry, they won't get walk down the isle with their diapers on!

 Good thing!

One of ours really dug in and did the same thing. I was concerned because I didn't think the store sold dinosaur size diapers. Anyway, he finally decided that enough was enough. [claphigh]

I hear you my dd will be 3 in August. She will pee on the potty just great but wait for a pullup or diaper to be on before she will poop. If you even mention pooping on the potty she gets upset. I don't understand this either.

Thank you ladies for all of your positive and humorous feedback. I have just accepted it. Keeps me sane. I realize I have to pick my battles, and this one I can't win right now.

I have to keep reminding myself that

Don't worry, they won't get walk down the isle with their diapers on!

LOL

oh goodness don't get me started with potty training. We have a 5 year old special needs son and he's doing extremely well to pee on the potty 2 times a day. I don't know if he will ever be fully trained. No one is his class is trained, and they have 6 year olds in there, too. he is constantly making messes. we actually pulled out all of our carpet and refinished the hardwood underneath. I love it! so much easier to clean up.

my 2 year old is also potty training. he's on the long road. he likes to wear underwear, most days, he's pretty good at peeing in the potty, the bms, not so much.

put it this way, I feel your pain!!

between the two of them I just want to pull my hair out sometimes. Some things I find helpful: doing all changes and cleanup in the bathroom. letting them see me putting the 'mess' in the toilet, letting them help flush, and most of all, trying to teach them and empower them to do it the right way.

***hugs!***

oh - are either of them constipated? I had to do senekot jr. with my oldest because he'd get so constipated, and the stress and anxiety of having to use the potty for it, was too much for him. The Senekot Jr. really helped him a lot. The ped. recommended it. Something to ask your ped if either are having that problem.

No, but sometimes when the older one soils his underwear, it's such a big log it clogs the toilet (I know, eww). I think he just holds it until he can't anymore.

Sorry for the visual, but this is a thread about poo. LOL
