I was looking around online at natural labor inducers. I don't need anything yet, but thought I might start trying some at my 37 week mark, in hopes of avoiding Pitocin induced labor....

Let me say...there are some pretty outlandish things out there! The one that made me laugh the most was a testimony from a woman who said she sat on her bed drinking cumin tea, laced with castor oil while her husband diligently assisted her in stimulating her nipples via breast pump! All good ideas, I suppose...but simultaneously????

Ok...share things that have worked or that you found funny that were suggested! I need a good laugh today!

Things that have "worked" for me? Sitting on a birthing ball, castor oil and stripping of the membranes. That's about it... oh yeah... and natural Prostaglandins from my husband... ::coughs::

Yah...those that come naturally were suggested on several posts! They even gave suggestions on how to *ahem* place the *product* on your cervix without using the conventional method! Now those were funny.....

...I'll never look at a turkey baster or medicine dropper the same way again!!!

why would you want to....oh nevermind, I guess the belly gets in the way.

*shrug*

I still think the conventional method is best, easiest, more fun, I mean, what would you say to your hubby?

"Now, dear, I want my labor to start. I want you to finish in this cup. Then, when we get all cleaned up, we'll use a turkey baster to transplant it and deposit it onto my cerix"

my dh would be like, "Uh, why bother? I can just put it there to begin with."

ANYWAY, lol

LOL!!!
Anyway, I had my membranes stripped, drank raspberry leaf tea and did things that are very difficult at 9 months pregnant!! I also walked a lot.
I am not sure if any of it helped but I started dilating 3 weeks before I delivered and when I got to the hospital I was already 4 cm and in very little pain.
I am still laughing from the earlier posts!

None of the above helped me go into labor with my ds  . I thought I would never have that little booger  . When the doctor stripped my membranes I almost smacked him because it hurt..it made me want to strip his membranes to let him know how it felt  ! We tried the "natural" way too and that didn't help either. I never tried castor oil but they did give me gel treatments three times but it only made me dialate and thin a little. When they pulled out the Pitocin I was to the point of saying "go for it"! It only took about 10 hours with that! PTL!

Something i tried during my first pregnancy was drink coconut water (which i dread) but my parents actually heard about it from another couple at church (i was a few days overdue). So one night i heard a knock on the door and it was my dad holding a coconut! Well he told me the story so i tried it and that night my water broke. So i guess it did work. Wouldn't hurt to try i supose. :D

I wonder if coconut milk works because it can be a laxative? I know that's how castor oil works, it irritates your intestines which in turn irritates your uterus.

I am curious now, off to do "research!"

I know Pineapples have something in them that can help labor start, but it has to be a fresh one, and you have to eat LOTS of it!

Blessings,
Amber

This thread is a scream and I'm not even pregnant!!!! Thanks for the laughs! I have no idea what "stipping membranes" is... obviously they don't do it in Australia!!!!!!!! When I had mine we lived in the country and all the women talked about the bumpy road out to a certain farm!!!! Seemed to have worked for some! Personally it sounds all like it could be a bit torturous for nothing, but heh!!!!!!! I do agree about the turkey baster... hmmmm.... not sure about that one! But hey, good luck... any more of these posts and the maybe might come early as a result of excessive laughter!!!!! Mairi

Ok...ok...ok...ok....the turkey baster was suggested for those women who just don't feel like doing the actual BD...and just want the benefits of what their hubby's could provide!!! I'm glad it brought you guys a laugh....I almost wet my pants after reading that....nothing unusual there though!!! These days if I take a deep breath I feel like I'm going to wet myself :D . The joys of being this far along!!!!

I am all about trying fresh pineapple. Yummy!!! Sliced up with my cereal or toast for breakfast. As a snack midmorning with some yogurt. Grilled with some chicken & veggies for dinner. Diced and blended into ice cream for a pineapple shake! Yep! I could eat o whole pineapple a day easily!!!!

Coconut milk??? Don't think I could do that one...I've got a bad gag reflex these days...I'll remember it for future use though!!

Glad you gals are laughing with me! I thought we could all use a bit of a pick me up today!

I've heard a good bumpy ride could jar things alive. But I've also heard of several who have done such to no avail. I mean, all out muddin'/4 wheelin' in the truck, felt like the stuffin' was going to come out of them, to no avail in the labor dept.

We've only ever used sex with nipple stimulation.

I'm reading this turkey baster method as a way to avoid the actual act of sex part. I know I often have no desire for such. And put me at the end of pregnancy when I'm just tired and miserable and ready to be done...you think I want to do THAT? I don't care if it means I *could* go into labor, I just don't want THAT. Eww LOL So, ya see, perhaps this turkey baster thing is so he can simply 'deposit his contribution' via whatever methods you decide (LOL) and all you have to deal with is the placement. None of that other icky contact stuff LOL

Ok, yeah, what a topic for breakfast. Yes, I'm just now eating breakfast...we're on vaca recovery here..we're slow to get around.
