View Full Version : Alice told me...

I was discussing my failed attempts at PTing my oldest with a lady at church, Alice. And she told me to stop worrying about it; Audrey would train when she was good and ready.

So, I haven't pushed anything for so long that I was starting to despair of Audrey ever being ready. Then, one day last week, she decided she was going to start using the potty for #1. She's been quite consistent about that, although she still has the occasional accident and still goes #2 in her pants.

I thought I'd show her where the 'guckies' (her word, not mine) go, so I dumped a turd from her underwear into the potty chair and had her take it to the potty, cleaned the pot, etc. She acted horrified, lol, but I've been pretty consistent in showing her. I'm hoping like crazy that she'll get that soon.

Our biggest problem is that she refuses to go potty in a public restroom. I bought her a seat insert so it's not too big or anything like that. Just going in public truly freaks her out. But we'll figure stuff out eventually!

I agree with Alice that when she's ready she'll do it. It sounds like she's doing great with #1 and #2 will follow soon too. Best of luck!

Sounds like she is off to a great start now! :D
As frustrating as I imagine it can get (we haven't started PTing yet), I do think Alice is right and she will master it when SHE is ready!

I am 27 and still can't stand the thought of going in public, only if I can't hold it under any circumstance will I go in public. I have had what I call "comodeaphobia" since I was a very young child. It is the thought of other peoples germs that just freaked me out. I even wipe the seat before I sit down at my own house most of the time, Even if the bathroom is clean I know OCD!!! I used to be bad about a lot of other stuff too, but God has really helped me out on most of it. It has gotten somewhat better over the years, but not entirely. Ask her why she doesn't like going...maybe it's scary. I know my 5 year old daughter hates those toilets that flush automatically...lol they scare her to death. If it is a cleanliness thing, take some disenfectant wipes or spray with you or something. I don't know, I just remember how I was. Wish my mom would have thought to give me something to clean with when I was little...:) lol...I am sure you wouldn't take her to a really nasty place anyway, but even in the hospital I wouldn't go. We went to see my grandma in the hospital when she had cancer and I was about 12 or 13 and would not even go in the hospital. Just a fear of some sort I guess. Just make sure you try to understand and see if there is anything you can do to help her.

I'm happy you are having the success now!

My son didn't like to go in public, mainly at Walmart. He would tell me that it was too loud when it flushed. Also, our Walmart has the automatic toliets. I took post its in my purse (my Mom's great idea!) and would cover the sensor so it wouldn't flush till we were ready for it too. He still comments on the noise of the flushing toliets but just covers his ears.

Post -its! What a good idea!

Sounds like your dd is off to a good start. I agree about letting them start when they get ready b/c no matter how you push or encourage, it just won't happen until they decide it's time. After all, it's their body! My dd did well with #1 first, then better with #2 and then back again...LOL Then she finally learned how to control both! I found with dd that if I made her clean up her own poopie mess, she would make sure it went in the potty more often!! She didn't like the whole idea of the mess...sheesh...finally they understand what mommy goes through! LOL [whatsmack]

I am glad that things are progressing. My DD won't go in a public potty either but hey...they creep me out too!

What a smart idea! I just stick my hand in front of it but that is hard to do when you are also helping a kid on and off the potty!

Good luck on your PT - we are going through some tough times now with it. I'm somewhere inbetween 'in his own time' and 'give him a kick in the pants!' LOL.
