Laidies,

Just wanted to caution against Zantac. I had an allergic reaction to it last night and had to be admitted to the hospital to monitor baby.

I've taken it pre-pregnancy for heartburn and it was listed as "ok" by my midwife as something to take. I've been suffering from severe heartburn due to baby's position and unable to sleep or eat much lately.

Tums worked for a while but then the heartburn progressed to more severe. All other natural methods ceased working on the heartburn too.

I've never had trouble taking this pre-pregnancy but fell ill to it during pregnancy. Just wanted to share in case anyone else could benefit from knowing.

Normally I am not sensitive to meds, maybe because I don't take many but I broke out into a sweat, almost faintish, my bottom lip swelled up and blistered, I started mild contractions 5 mintues apart, and baby was moving hysterically. I called my midwife immediately. Ends up hospital also found a kidney infection that I didn't know I had as no symptoms were predominant so it's a blessing I went to the ER.

We monitored baby for 2 hours at hospital and finally got me enough fluids to help and contractions stopped and was released.

Wow!!!! Thanks for the warning. Glad you and baby are okay. I'll keep you guys in my prayers that the medication is out of your system now and doesn't cause any further problems.

How scary! Glad you and baby are okay! I took Zantac throughout both of my pregnancies and never had problems. Who knows - maybe this was God's way of making sure the doctors caught wind of your kidney infection. Take care of yourself! :)

Wow thanks for the heads up. My doctor doesn't let me take anything but tylenol LOL. I am glad you pulled through it OK!

Oh my! Glad to hear you got to the ER in time. =) I will keep Zantac on the NO list ;) Thank you for sharing this. It amazes me that pregnancy is enough to cause allergies to things you didn't have before... I found out during my last pregnancy, actually at David's birth that I was very allergic to Naproxen Sodium, better known as Aleve... fun times. :?

Wow that is so scary! I'm glad you and baby are better now. I'm always a little afraid to take any meds...especially during pregnancy.
