View Full Version : So I have this pain in my side...

...it feels like a sidestitch. It's completely different than how it feels when my ligaments are stretching (which, btw, hurt worse than the last pregnancy...ouch!!). Anyway, it's only happened a couple times so far, and I figure it's just gas or something like that. But it's a sharp, continuous pain in my right side and it usually lasts for no more than an hour. Should I be concerned or do I just wait to ask the doc at my next visit in a couple weeks?

Beck, I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. There's so much happening in your body right now. So many changes on the inside that you don't think about. ALL your internal organs are being moved out of their normal places. Intestines get pinched and baby likes to curl up on them. I would do like you mentioned and talk to your doc about it next apt. My doc liked doing ultrasounds so I made sure to complain about every pain just so he'd "check it out", and I'd get another look at my baby. I love those ultrasounds! [claploud]

I would mention it to your doc. But I know mine said that with every successive pregnancy you will have more cramping, more ligament pains, and more abdominal pains. That was most definitely true with my #2.

If it is near your scar, it would be your scar tissue (OWCH I know all about this). Also the baby could be leaning on something!

if it worries you too much (but I am sure there is nothing to be concerned about) just mention it at your next appointment... there are so many pains and sensations during pregnancy it can be really hard to know whether or not to be worried sometimes!

Plus you have that other U/S coming up don't you? You can always ask them to take a look if it continues.

I have been in a lot of discomfort during this pregnancy so I know how you feel sister!

Oh my goodness I remember those aches and stretchy feelings I got while pregnant. They were worse with my second one. I would also get charlie horses in my calves sometimes when I turned over at night--ouch, those hurt!!!!!! Stephanie

Man! It never ceases to amaze me how much NO ONE tells you except other Mum's! For instance no one has EVER told me before that the ligaments and stretching get more painful with each pregnancy... and no one had told me before caesarian scars get painful during pregnancy.

Sunday night the baby was right under my ribs and I had to stop in the middle of a carpark until I could try and push her down with my hand before I could even walk!!! boo hoo LOL

BTW Beck I hope you are all sorted or feeling a bit better!

Thanks for the reassurance! I wasn't TOO concerned, but it was enough to prompt my asking you ladies. As long as it's not appendicitis or anything crazy like that, I'm okay with it!

Is the pain near you rib area? It could be the baby postioning him or herself on your rib.

No, it's lower, right above my hip. It feels just like a sidestitch...location, type of pain, everything...except it happens even when I'm not doing any activities. I'm sure it's fine, though, because it's only happened a couple times so far.

I truly don't mean to harp on but that does sound like scar stretch pain.

I had something like that at about 23 weeks I think. I posted about it. At least that's what it sounds like. I thought it was BHs contractions but now I'm thinking it was gas or something. I was sleeping and woke up with it and had to go and lie on the couch and breath through the pain. It lasted about an hour. I still don't know whether it was early labour contractions (I doubt it though because it probably would have happened again), BHs or gas or just round ligament pain. But I do get round ligament pain and this was way more painful.
