I really need some help and advice. My dd is barely eating food. Last Sunday she had a fever, but it was gone by Tuesday. I took her to the dr Tues. Dr said dd's left ear was a little pink on the top and she could see four top teeth buds swollen and ready to come through. (I'm having her ears looked at again Tues.) I thought the fever was related to the teething. Dr said babies don't get fevers when teething. Her appetite has been slowing down for the last 1.5wks. Now she barely eats her oatmeal and maybe a little apple sauce each day. She doesn't even eat her favorite foods. She is bfeeding and constantly wants that so, of course, I've been letting her bfeed as much as she wants. I've started drinking protein shakes and am trying to eat a lot more. I am really concerned because she can't afford to loose any weight. Tues she was 13.6. Has anyone else's child not eaten during teething? Or does anyone else have an idea of what's going on? Thanks in advance.

My dd also did the same thing, it freaked me out too. Don't worry too much about it, their appetite will come back. It did for her. It actually happened 2 different times, once when the bottom teeth came in and then again when the top teeth came in. Apparently I have heard that when their mouth is sore they do not want to eat. However, if it goes on for an extended period of time of I would go to the Dr. then if you are really concerned.

My babies didn't eat much during those painful teething days either. I would just let her nurse as much as she wants to and when the pain subsides, she will start eating again and will make up for lost time!! Stephanie :D

My ds went through that as well. And at 13 mos we still have the same problem. I have noticed that when he had an ear infection, he did not eat much. I felt like I could hold everything he ate in one day in a tablespoon! But our ped said that sometimes they have a mild sore throat w/ear infections and that could cause them to want to drink instead of eating. She said as long as they were getting enough milk via breast or bottle, not to worry. Also I noticed a slow down of eating right before a growth spurt. The he would eat anything that would be still long enough!!

My little guy always gets a fever with teething first off! Also, he went to barely eating a few bites a day from 15 months to 22 months! But the doc said as long as he was maintaining his weight and not losing drastically, that he was fine and that it was VERY normal and almost all kids go through phases like that!

Thank you all so much! I'm more relaxed about the lack of eating.

She has started to eat a little more, but nowhere near what she did a couple weeks ago. Some days she eats very little, then the next day at lunch I can't feed her enough! (Back to not eating at dinner.) Today at sil's she wouldn't eat her food w/a spoon. Everyone was eating w/a fork so I tried that and she ate. And at dinner dh and I both tried to feed her, but she wanted nothing to do with it. She'll have 5 bites, then refuse to eat. I'll sit and wait, and try again, and sometimes she'll eat a little more, then refuse and I have to wait, again...

I had her ear looked at and it seems ok now. Her sleeping has been off, too. I'm thinking it's teething (no teeth yet) and maybe a growth spurt? She seems tired a lot, though she's not sleeping as long during the night. She's been taking a few short naps during the day, sometimes a long one.

My little guy always gets a fever with teething first off!I thought some babies did!
Btw, dd is 1.
