Hi all,
My dd is a little over 2 yo and been having a LOT of problems with BM's. Last Thursday evening we had to give her a suppository and the same thing happened yesterday morning (4:30 am) and then late last night (11:30 pm). We gave her suppositories each time also. We are planning to take her to the Dr. next Wed. I am extremely concerned about this, does anyone have any related experience with their children or suggestions as to how to help alleviate this? We are trying to put more fiber in her diet.
Thanks.

My ds has never been constipated, but he has had hard stools before. The other day I bought some raisins just because and Preston has been eating a handful a day. Let me tell you, they have got things moving. I didn't really buy them for that reason, but his stools have been regular instead of hard ever since the raisins. I'm just going to keep giving them to him ever day as a snack. Maybe try them for your dd and see if they help.
Good luck!

My dd who is now 3 has always had this problem. I thought at first it was because she drank sooooo much milk (non stop) so I started alternating between juice and milk. It was so bad, that she would hold it in for like 2 days because she was so scared to push. Poor thing, I'd would try everything to help her, but I increased her fiber and I am trying to get her to drink more water. I'll dilute her milk or juice. It really has made a difference. You can give your dd half a teaspoon of mineral oil or olive oil. This should get her bowels moving. I would also put vasaline or ky on her little bum to help it not to tear.
I hope things change for your dd. I know it's not fun at all!

We've had this problem with both boys, and the best thing we've found is prune juice and prunes. They have prunes in the baby section, and you can buy the juice in the regular juice section (much cheaper that way). We just diluted the juice a little and gave it a few times a day. It worked great! Also, if you feed cereal and such, you may want to mix the juice in with it because cereals and such are very binding.

Hi,
We have tried prunes, prune juice, and we dilute her juice also. We will try to give her more fruits and veggies and more water and cut back on a bit of milk to see if that helps. We are also going to try Activia yogurt too to see if that will help too. Thank you!

Hi my DD has always been constipated all her life she does have some let up from it but it does cause her problems. The best thing to do is make your little one drink plenty of water and increase fibre intake and add in vegtables and fruit. You may need to get some laxatives from the doctor to help with the problem, I use to use suppositries butis caused my DD so much pain that I stopped them. I use something called Movicol I am not sure if you can get it there, it dissoloves in water and is easy to take.
My health visitor suggested putting my DD ont he toilet for a set number of minutes after her bath to get her bowel moving.
