View Full Version : Gestational diabetes testing soon anyone? fruitofthewomb 05-27-2007, 01:08 AM Yuck!!! My appt is on Tuesday and last year after I drank the stuff I felt sick to my stomach all day! Hopefully this pregnancy will be different. I know I should just be grateful if the test comes back fine. Ren 05-27-2007, 01:56 AM mine is coming up soon I think. . .maybe the next appointment. I'm so busy I haven't given it much thought but, I'm not looking forward to it. -ren babylove 05-27-2007, 10:05 AM Yes I am having mine next week, been over 4 yrs since my last one. Just hoping all is fine they said our baby is very big at u/s 97% growth rate. At 20 weeks he was measuring 21 and 3 day's might be a sign but I didn't with all other 5 babes so proberly worring about nothing. Andrea MommaBear 05-27-2007, 12:30 PM I'm a sick woman...I'm probably one of the few that LIKES the stuff to drink for the test [whistle] Reminds me of orange Crush which I haven't drank since childhood (or last baby depends.. ). Blessings for a great test! ~Kerri 4HisGlory 05-27-2007, 04:10 PM I have been thinking that that I might be having mine at my apt on tuesday. My sister who went to the same ob that I do, said you have an option between drinking the glucose drink or eating like 30 jelly beans :D She told me to do the jelly beans if they still offer the option. believeNgrace 05-29-2007, 12:56 PM I have my test on June 5th...first timer so I don't know what to expect. fruitofthewomb 05-29-2007, 02:35 PM I'm so happy. I had my test over 3 hours ago and don't feel sick to my stomach this time. In fact, I am starving and I've had eggs and cheese and two bowls of cereal. I think the sugar really does make one hungry. Oh well, I think I'll just go with it today and be feeling normal tomorrow. Eva 05-29-2007, 05:19 PM Just curious, do they do this test routinely to every pg woman or is it just for those at risk? I've never heard of it so I was just curious. 4HisGlory 05-29-2007, 06:22 PM At least here in the states, I believe it is a routien procedure. Usually done around 25ish weeks. I am having mine done in 4 weeks (so at 29weeks), and I don't have to drink anything! I get to eat 28 jelly beans! :D Cheeseburger 05-29-2007, 06:38 PM I just got my lab order for the test.... will probably go in tomorrow for it. we don't have the jellybean option here just that orangey stuff, but I didn't find it tasted too bad last time. I mean, not something I would otherwise choose to drink but it didn't make me gag or anything LOL. Katielady 05-30-2007, 09:59 AM No jelly bean option here either....I drank the fruit punch flavored stuff and it wasn't bad. I failed the test by 3 points, had to do the 3 hour and didn't really fail, but didn't really pass either. I tested at the very top of the normal range. 1 point over would have been failing. So, I have directions to increase protein, watch carbs and refined sugars and try to keep track of any unusual symptoms (extreme thirst, headaches, etc.) The drink wasn't so bad as the fact they blew a vein trying to draw blood! Cheeseburger 05-30-2007, 11:22 AM I'm sorry that the test came back positive for you :( It did for me last time. Did they give you a blood sugar monitor? I was just a few points over as well. 4HisGlory 05-30-2007, 09:07 PM No jelly bean option here either....I drank the fruit punch flavored stuff and it wasn't bad. They drew blood??? I thought it was just a finger poke. Sorry your test didn't go so great. Cheeseburger 05-31-2007, 12:16 AM They drew blood??? I thought it was just a finger poke. Sorry your test didn't go so great. Is it just a finger poke for some? Here they drew 2 vials of blood from me but I was also having a "CBC" blood test or whatever that is. I think that is where they count your red, white blood cells and things like that. I'm not sure. Cheeseburger 05-31-2007, 12:16 AM Oh by the way I got my diabetes test done today. It went really well. :D I am praying I do not have problems like last time!! Ren 05-31-2007, 02:18 AM a friend reminded me that it was like orange crush- it's been so long I'd forgotten. So, I guess I join the sick puppy club because I remember liking it also  We'll see. . .I'm just nervous it'll be different with pregnancy and it'll make me sick. -ren myjoyoverflows 05-31-2007, 04:41 AM a friend reminded me that it was like orange crush- it's been so long I'd forgotten. Katielady 05-31-2007, 09:30 AM quote] They drew blood??? I thought it was just a finger poke. Sorry your test didn't go so great.[/quote] Just one vial, but yes, they drew blood. It depends on the doctor. With my first pregnancy, they just did a finger poke. I did 2 seperate tests with this one. The first one when I was 24 weeks, and another at 26 weeks because it came back "on the edge". The second test was the 3 hour test. You go in, they draw blood, drink the stuff, wait an hour, draw more blood, wait another hour, draw more blood...you get the picture - it's to see how your body adapts over time. Still ended up "on the edge". But - it's okay. My only big "sweet" craving lately has been strawberries, so I can keep eating them, just not a HUGE bowl with whipped cream or anything! babylove 05-31-2007, 11:01 AM Well I'm about to have mine in a few days.I remember having blood drawn with all 5 pregnancy's and it was orange stuff all five times. Here in Australia they test at 28 weeks because there;s not much chance of getting it after that. You just get the screening test (1hr)done first if that comes back positive then you go for another one that goes over 2hrs. Hope all yours go well. Andrea |
