My youngest ds is now 4 months, but the past week he has been drooling like crazy and gnawing on his hands like crazy!! So do you think he might be working on teeth? I don't remember my oldest ds doing this just as early?

Jayne, it sure does sound like it. Some babies start as early as eight weeks. I know someone who's baby was born with teeth. Wouldn't that make breastfeeding a real eye-opening experience? [rofl] Good luck with the teething. It can be so hard on both of you.

Our daughter had a full set of teeth, molars and everything, by about ten months I think! Our son just finished getting all of his not long after he turned two.

I think Keyz got her first tooth at three or four months. It's quite likely that it's teething!

My youngest ds "teethed" for about a month before his tooth finally cut through. He is 13 mos and still constantly drools and chews on anything. He was aroung 3-4 mos when he started the drooling and chewing, but didn't actually get his first tooth until closer to 5 mos old. He had and still does have a hard time cutting teeth. They just seem to bother him really badly. Hope yours goes smoothly!!! :D We found that just letting him wear a bib a lot cut down on the drool all over him and saved having to change his shirt because it was soaked!! He also LOVED to chew on cold baby carrotts (of course supervised) and that seemed to appease him some.

Jayne, our DD is 5.5 months and I think that she is doing the same. Drooling like crazy, hands always in her mouth. Sometimes she stops crying when we put pressure on her gums. Our other daughter didn't get her first tooth until 13 months! Strange territory for us.

Definitely sounds like teething! That sounds like my dd, lots of drooling and chewing on her hands, at times not wanting to eat and irritable and not sleeping well. Tylenol and Motrin worked well for us. I think she found the top ones more painful to come in than the bottom ones.

Yeah it could be. There are other signs too... like one cheek being red or one ear. Red swollen gums. And of course irritability! Sometimes I didn't know Abby was teething until I saw the tooth. The first tooth she cut I didn't know until I saw teeth marks on her sippy cup. She was 5 1/2 months old. The molars seemed to cause more trouble. I had to give her Tylenol and Motrin then. But other times I could just get away with a cold washcloth or a teething ring or some Bonjela (numbing gel).
She even had a couple of teeth that cut and I saw some blood on her gum and lips. That was quite freaky. I guess that would happen every time? But because most of the time she cut her teeth overnight I wouldn't have noticed... :?

It could be teething, although my dd did just about that at 3mos, then suddenly stopped around 5/6mos. She didn't get her first tooth until 9mos! :o Now she's working on four on top - at the same time!

Thanks everybody, he is still drooling and chewing like crazy, so I guess we will just wait & see. I will let you know if he does pop one soon :)

On a side note, Hi PaulaB, it was good to see you post, your avatar of your girls is beautiful!

My ds is now 7 months old and he has been chewing and drooling for about 3.5 months now...still NO teeth! He will literally soak his shirt to the middle by noon, we change, do it again by supper, and then we go straight to jammies. This is WITH a bib! It is CRAZY! He will chew on anything ... often in church I let him chew my hand just to help keep him quiet...then I am soaked from wrist to elbow!

Hope it all goes good...and hoping we get a tooth soon too.

(my ds was definately more cranky during his teething periods; must be a boy thing !!)

Our youngest started teething at 1 1/2 mths old  and had a horrible time with it. When we first moved to the town where we are and joined our church there was another family that we are friends with and they recommended to us Teething Tablets. You can buy them at CVS. As soon as you give your child one they start to dissolve instantly. :D By the time we found out about these we didn't need them. We have had several people in our church tell us they used them and they worked. Good luck!!!!

I know we have a while to go, but I thought I'd pop in and say that you can also get the teething tablets at wal-mart too. I've worked in a day care and some parents used them (a lot of peditricians around here now advise against numbing gels because they are saying it hardens the gums and makes it harder for the teeth to come in. I've not seen proof one way or another though). The teething tablets here are Hyland's Teething Tablets. It worked great for some kids, but not others. Just keep trying stuff until you find something that works.

One thing I do plan on tryin is oil of cloves when the time comes. It is great at numbing stuff, it doesn't taste too horribly and it doesn't take a lot. I use it on sore throats and stuff at home now.

Sounds like it, although, Samera did that for about 4-5 months before she popped in a tooth, she was around you little one's age when she started gnawing and drooling.
