View Full Version : Laying on my stomach

I was just wondering is it a big no no if I sleep on my stomach at this stage (5 months). It's not uncomfortable at all, but I keep rolling over at night being afraid I'll hurt the baby.???

My OB always told me at that stage not to lay on my back or stomach at all....to always lay on my side...I propped myself up behind and in front with two body pillows so I wouldn't roll! It was hard because I always sleep on my stomach!

I was told to not sleep on my stomach, but I didn't hear anything about sleeping on your back! Thank goodness it's just way too uncomfortable on my back, huh? :D

After I had Riley and slept on my stomach for the first time in 8 months, I nearly invited everyone over for a celebration! It was sooooooo nice to do that again!

I'm totally missing the stomach sleeping here. [thumbsdown]

yeah laying on your back after 3 months can put to much pressure and cut off oxygen to the baby or deplete the amount they are supposed to get. Yikes!

I slept on my back while prego and ds is fine. Guess that's a reminder that God's in control!

I always try to sleep on my stonach until it's uncomfortable while I am prego (sometimes even when it's not comfortable!). But, I love sleeping on my belly! I totally relate Beck! I love being able to sleep on my belly and it's so refreshing after having the baby to be able to sleep on your stomach again!

I can't sleep on my back. At this stage of prego (28 weeks), it's very uncomfortable and starts to hurt soon.

I can only sleep on my right side. If I sleep on my left side I get sharp pains. If I sleep on my back I get sharp back pains. If I sleep on my stomach my boobs are all squished and uncomfortable as well as my stomach.

I am a tummy sleeper too and slept that way until it no longer felt comfortable to do so. The only way I felt comfortable sleeping after about 4 months along was on my right side. I couldn't wait to get back on my tummy after I quit nursing my babies. I tried sleeping on my tummy after I had my babies but while I was still nursing and it would make my boobs feel smushed and make my milk leak. (Can I say boobs here?) Stephanie

YARGH! Well what if you wake up and you have turned on your stomach? I am sure this happens without all of us knowing it at some stage? All these scary things like oxygen being cut off to the baby  and not laying on the back, no one told me that ever. When I was pregnant with the twins I had no choice with that one

I have invented a new sleep position where I am not exactly FULL on laying on my stomach.

I tell you, all the do's and don'ts sometimes I feel like I should be in a padded cell with an O2 mask, pure spring water, IV veggies, moderated temperature LOL!!!

By the way does anyone get the "everyone staring at your stomach" thing when you go out? I keep forgetting why people are looking and think my fly must be undone or something LOL

I don't think I've ever turned onto my stomach. I think just trying would wake me up since trying to roll over or move even an inch seems to wake me up these days. GRRR This pelvic/pubic pain is terrible! I haven't woken up and been on my stomach. I kind of sleep on my side like I'm rolling onto my stomach. Kinda side and stomach. That's most comfy.
I have never read or heard or been told not to sleep on my stomach or back. I think that my doctor or midwife would have mentioned it if it was dangerous but who knows... :? Actually I don't think they need oxygen... they breathe in amniotic fluid. I know that when you are in labour or when you have an epidural put in that you have to be careful which way you are lying... I think it's just for when you have an epidural though. Because I lay on my back when I had Abby.

I haven't noticed anyone looking at my tummy. But I don't take much notice of other people when I go out. If they are looking I'm not seeing it! HAHA

I tried to sleep on my left side while I was pregnant but would also end up on my stomach sometimes- I used a pillow between my legs and also found myself sort of clutching the spare pillow so I was never directly on my stomach, but I didn't worry much about it. My midwife had said that direct laying on the stomach isn't recommended but ocassionally landing there shouldn't hurt anything... I always tried to remember that all the do's and dont's (I came to refer to it as hullaballou) come from mankind and that God is ultimately in control... Happy Sleeping!!

I can't lay on my stomach. It just isn't comfortable anymore. And I have always been a tummy sleeper. I think that is the thing I miss the most since I've been preggo. That and actually sleeping through the night.

I hadn't thought about milk getting squished out after the baby is born. I was so looking forward to getting to sleep on my stomach again right after the baby is born. OH well, just have to wait longer I guess.

I end up sleeping on my left side, a pillow between my legs, and one clutched to my chest. My dog normally ends up laying against me and the pillows on the front, my hubby cuddles me from behind. It is nice to be hemmed in with all that support, but it sure makes it hard to get up in the middle of the night when I've got to use the potty. When I try to get out of bed, my husband hugs me tighter in his sleep to keep me there with him. If I don't have support on my front side, it feels like my belly is going to just roll off the bed. It hurts to have it not be supported.

I had never heard that sleeping on one's stomach while pregnant was advised against. I had heard people say that it gets real uncomfortable to do it though. I thought that is why you don't. Guess you learn something new everyday.

I love to be supported from all sides too. I have a body pillow called a snoogle that has curves on either side. I use that to support my back, neck and to go in between my leg. then I have another pillow under my head and under my belly. It is quite the deal to disengage in order to go to the bathroom, buts it's the only way I am comfortable.

Well problem solved I think I am getting to big now anyway, I sleep on my side or back now.
