Hey guys,

My DH and I have been TTC our first baby for 3 months now. We have been taking my temp every morning before I wake up trying to figure out when I'll ovulate (i have a very odd cycle). Has anyone else done this? My last three readings have been really low (36.00, 35.99, 36.02) and i think this means ill be ovulating in the next day or maybe even now! all my other temps jump quite rapidly each day by about 0.20 degrees so i'm thinking this is it! [couplekissing] do the pee on the stick ovulators work?

any input or experience would be much appreciated!!!!

Hi there.

My hubby and I have been TTC for over a year now ... I just started seeing a specialist in hopes of helping us along.

Anyway, I starting tracking my temp last week ... here is how it was explained to me -- your temperature is normally lower before ovulation and higher afterwards. Normally before ovulation, your temp is between 97 and 97.5 degrees Fahrenheit but after ovulation your temperature will rise to 97.6 to 98.6 degrees.
The main drawback to the temp method is that there are other factors that can influence your temp - like alcohol, lack of sleep or irregular cycles.

I haven't used the ovulation predictors yet so I have no idea how they work.

I wish you the best of luck!! :D

Hello :)

DH and I have also been TTC for over a year. I started charting temps 3 cycles ago. I really didn't understand how to do it until I read "Taking Charge of Your Fertility." This is the definitive book on the subject and highly recommended! I'd encourage you to get a copy. Toni Weschler explains how to chart all your fertility signs--temps, cervical fluid, cervical position, and others. Most people say that it takes them a few cycles to figure it all out; that was definitely the case for me.

You want to take your temp at the same time every day, if possible, just after waking. You are looking for a pattern of lower temps before ovulation and then at least a 0.2 degree shift followed by sustained higher temps to confirm ovulation. The PP is correct that it can be influenced by many things, even using heavier or lighter blankets.

I've never used OPKs but I know some women find them helpful for cross-checking their other signs.

God bless your TTC journey!

Julie
