Hi,
My dd just turned 2 yo. We started potty training a month ago, it seems like everyone else's kid has taken a lot shorter time. Some days my dd will initiate going and other days I will ask her if she wants to go and she says no. I guess I just need to be patient.
I was wanting to know when we should transition her over to pull ups from diapers. She is capable of pulling her pants down and taking her diaper off.
Thanks.

I never asked her if she wanted to go. I would just take her and I would go myself (or pretend) and then put her on after me. Also it helps if maybe you have another family member about her age that is potty trained, let them go together.
My dd was 2 and her cousin was 3. We went to visit for Christmas. My dd's problem was if she had panties or a pull up she would wet them, but if she didn't have anything on she would use the potty. But when she was around her cousin, her cousin would tell her mom she had to go and my dd would follow her into the bathroom everytime. The next day and ever since I've had no problem.
But don't rush it, it will happen.
With our first I did pull ups and the little potties, the drop in seats, everything that was available, to try to get her potty trained; I had started her right after she was two. She finally just "got it" at a month before she turned three.... [whatheadagainstthewall]
Our second daughter... I gave it a shot at about 24 months, because she seemed VERY interested in going, but all she did was cry and whine about going on the potty... we did the small potty, pull ups and the whole nine yards again... I finally just let up because it was turning into a battle instead of instinct... SO, here she is, just turned three in April, and she just "Got It" all of a sudden... dry at night and all through the day going in the potty. [whateh]
So... With the twins... I'm going to introduce a potty at about two... but, I'm going to just "count" on them not being trained until three... that seems to be the common age in this family! Good luck, gal!!!!

Forego the pullups.
If there's interest in using the potty, go to underwear.
Pull ups just prolong that whole 'but I CAN pee in my pants and not feel it' thing. Even with those new fandangled 'feel wet liners' or what have ya..I'm sure it's not the same.
Nothing can compare to pee running down the legs of a child for that lightbulb to come on and they say to themselves "eww, I don't like that" and catch it BEFORE it gets to that point next time ;)
Of course, if there is a LOT of that going on, perhaps they're not really ready and you need to back up.
I see the ease of pull-ups, don't get me wrong. I'm just saying, it really isn't a necessary step. Mine have all gone from diapers to underwear (exception of #1, he used pull ups briefly, then went to 'trainers underwear', 2 of the others tried the 'trainers' briefly, but regular underwear did them just fine)

I ditto the whole anti-pull up thing... all they did was make her feel more secure about not making it to the potty in time... if they wet themselves, then they get embarrassed and it will make them want to "make it" next time. Sure, it's messy but, they sure learn REAL fast... especially when they wake up in a puddle in the middle of the night... they won't want to wake up wet and cold tomorrow night... KWIM? I think that's when we saw the REAL transition too... when we finally STOPPED putting a diaper on and just let them run around in undies... they finally realized they NEEDED to use the potty and what it felt like to "need" to go...

We never used Pull Ups with DS. I thought they would be too similar to a diaper. We had some accidents but he was fully trained rather quickly in my opinion.

Ditto to the ditto on skipping the pull-ups. IMO, they are a gimmick and a rip off and it wasn't until I went back to a diaper after pull-ups that my son got motivated to PT for real!

I am all for forgoing the pull ups...they just prolonged it with my son.....he was a little over 3, my daughter is 19 months and wants to go on the potty, I haven't found many panties small enough for her, she is barely out of 12 mo clothes, but I will not use pull ups ever again.

I agree with skipping the pull-ups! I'm working on potty training my almost 3 year-old son right now and we are using underwear. This is only the second day, but he hates it when he has wet pants...so he has gotten fairly good at knowing when to run to the bathroom.
I will use pull-ups when we go on a long car trip or something, but the rest of the time he is in underwear.
