I was realizing that when I get stressed out... I always reach for the same old comfort food... either FAST food, like a burger and fries, or ice cream, fudge... or all of the above... what's your big comfort food???

Not so much burgers and fries because I don't always have the access or money. But I love chips, sweets, chocolate and a soda! Even just chewing gum helps calm me down sometimes and I find it comforting. Maybe I am weird??

Honey Nut Cherrios or Fruit Candy (starburst, skittles, things like that)

Two of my favorites from childhood still get me through the tough days...I have a baggie of cherrios on my desk right now I've been munching on all morning.

Pasta. I remember one evening I made myself a plate of spaghetti at ten at night and then I felt so guilty about eating all those carbs so close to bed...

I'm there with you! Sometimes a good ole peanut butter and jelly open faced sandwich is just what I need... actually, that's my late breakfast today! :)

Ice cream is the biggie for me, but I grew up in a very food oriented family; I have "comfort" connectins with perhaps 100 different foods. Ice cream was what I got when I was sick, so maybe that is why it stands out.

There are also the things mom would make often: mac, spaghetti, chili, etc.

And then, shocker, I actually associate certain foods w/ movies! I associate frozen OJ ice with The Wizard of Oz, for instance. Cartoons.. PB&J! Aladin.. Kraft Dinner! Dead Poets Society.. yogurt with grape nuts mixed in. Am I a nutbar or what?

I am a big one for comfort food I have gone from being a size 12 to a size 16 although I do not look that big, its my huge belly. I love anything bad for you but my ultimate comfort food is a Mcdonalds Big Mac Burger with a large chocolate milk shake. this I do not get that often and usually settle for my finger in the chocolate spread jar. Yucky I know but when you have PMS anything goes.
[sheepjumpingrope] I need to exercise it all off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rachel, I do the same thing sometimes. The only thing I can think of lately is soft pretzals while watching the office. There was one show about soft pretzels and now everytime I watch it I want soft pretzels!

I hear ya on the things from when you were little. We always got chicken noodle soup when we were sick...that's probably why I can't stand it!!

Ice cream is a big comfort food...anything sweet...but more along the lines of something chocolate...I have a BIG problem in the chocolate department......hehe...

Too funny about the movie association Rachel...what's weird though, is I totally agree with your associations!

Bread and cheese yes definatly, but peanut butter I will leave that to you I hate peanut butter. My dad and my daughter love it and all I can smell is it wafting past, No thank you.

I tell you what is nice Phillidelphia cream cheese with plain crips just dip it in and eat thats really nice.

Another fraviourite comfort food for me is Chocolate Fudge cake melted with Custard over the top.

This topic is making me hungry and I do not have comfort food to hand.

hey, are "crisps" crackers or chips? In the US chips are thin potatoes and crackers are typically thin, square-ish, bread like things. I just love learning what other places call things. :)

Sorry I was being totally English there sorry, I get so confused at times. Crips are what you would call potatoe chips. Over here we call them crips and they come in every shape size and flavour you could imagine. We even have bags that only cost 10p in our money. If there is anything else that I get wrong please let me know, sorry again guys.

I have to agree with the Ben and Jerry's on an "I'm upset day". I also love veggie soup on a cold wet day...made in my moms old enameled cast iron red pot...that is deep down comfort (my mom has passed)

Sorry about your mum you always find that relatives make you good comfort food. My Great Gran (who I viewed as mum) used to make me oxtail soup on french fries. My great gran sadly passed on too, but you could always guarntee that she had comfort food stashed, sometimes toffees or sultana cookies. I have many comfort foods that I like because I am a girl that likes her food.

No way, don't you apologize! I LOVE it!!! I love English words for things, they sound so Elegant compared to how we US-ians talk! :) At least, I think so! :) So, don't ever hesitate to use those more "elegant" words, just please, don't be offended if I ask for some translation! I would love to give you a call and listen to you talk for a while! :) I love the English Accent. :)

I do not think you would be able to under stand me, I do not always talk that clear and my accent is far from elegant. I come from Yorkshire So I have a real mix in my voice, I do not think growing yp on a rough council estate has helped either.

I would ESPECIALLY like to hear your accent then; I'm a huge James Herriet fan and he is always talking about the "Yorkshire" accent!! Ha! Isn't THAT exact! I grew up in Germany, so we watched a lot of British TV and I picked up on the accent rather quickly, I find it's easy to understand British, Irish and Scottish accents. :)

I am not broad yorkshire you definatly would not understand me if I was I can not understand that one. I have more of a Bradford accent with under tones of Yorkshire if that makes sense.

JRBL
05-01-2007, 04:27 PM
HA! I have heard about the old yorkshire being hard to understand! I just can't even imagine!!! I'm sure it's like a language all in itself! It would be so interesting to sit back and hear everybody converse with the different dialects! :)

It's the same here in the US, you get someone from the North talking with someone from the south, and throw in someone from the west... wow... it gets interesting! :) All the different accents!

See all, hear all, say nowt, ate all sup all pay nowt. If ever tha does owt for nowt tha does it for thisen.

Thats old Yorkshire for you, rough translation to how I speak.

See all hear all, say nowt, ate all drink all pay nowt. If eva ya do somat for nowt then ya do it for ya sen.

Does that make sense to you, trust me it gets confusing. Up here I uses words like, init, going t shop, minga, e.t.c

You get ma drift.

One of our family/friends has a very rough English accent, which may be close to yours. Dh can't understand her!

But her spouse, one of dh's best pals (we know him in person), has a more common British accent. Dh has picked up on some of his pronounciations, and he keeps correcting me on my "English."

Here in Canada we're a mix of English-English and Americanized-English. We have fish and chips and chips (without fish being mentioned, they're just crisps, but "crisps" didn't catch on here!) It can be confusing..

It is confusing chips over here are what you call french fries.
French Fries to me are somat that you get in Maccy D's.
Crisps over here are know as chips where you are.
Courgettes over here Zukinis over there.

Im confused as well and not only that your chocolate is different, do you know we will have to start a topic on it and see what we get. Cause here in Bradford you can curry, kebabs poppadoms..........................
