View Full Version : TTC while BF
My dh and I would like to start to TTC but I am still breastfeeding and not ready to give it up yet. DS is no longer bf in the middle of the night. He eats 3 meals of solids a day consisting of cereal, fruits and veggies and I bf about 5-8 times per day. any suggestions?

You can still try to conceive while breastfeeding and you may get pregnant. Surprisingly enough you still ovulate while breastfeeding but many people think you don't because you may not get your period. I would say if you feel ready to have another baby, go for it! And don't let breastfeeding stop you! Think about the women in other countries that breastfeed their children well into their toddler ages and beyond and they still have other babies!

Just an FYI about getting pg pretty close together and bfing....your milk supply could go waaaaaaay down, or away when you get pg. I have always had milk supply issues, and I got pg with Noah just before Dd's 1st bday. My milk supply sky rocketed for about a month and then dropped off almost completely. My Dd loves cows milk, so I felt very blessed that the Lord waited until I could give her milk before he took my supply away. I still bfeed DD, and I am about to have Noah this Tuesday...Lord willing! My supply has been nothing but a few drops here and there, but Dd still loves to nurse. My colostrum just picked up about a month ago...I can actually almost get a stream of liquid now, and Dd is so excited, just wait until my milk comes back in....haahaa!! I have never been able to reestablish milk during this pg, but like I said before, DD did get a few drops here and there with each nursing.
There are a few uniformed people, even doctors out there who say you have to stop nursing when you get pg, but unless you are having issues, or have prior reasons that make you have to stop, your body will provide what it needs for all your babies. Just make sure you eat more and keep hydrated.
I would start watching your body temps to see what your body is doing during the month. I didn't get my PPAF until DD was 9 months old, and some women don't get theirs until they completely stop bfing. That doesn't mean you won't ovulate, but it's more likely that you won't until your cycle returns. If you watch your temps, you may see when you start to ovulate again.
I pray the Lord opens your womb if it's his will!!
Blessings,

I was still bfing Daniel when we found out I was pregnant (he was 7 months). I continued to bf until he was 15 months. He weened himself (I think 'cause he had no room d/t my ever increasing belly). I had no problems with b/f and TTC (although we weren't trying). As long as you and baby feel comfortable and you know baby is getting enough nutrition...why not try? Best wishes and prayers to you! ~Kerri
Thanks for all of the great advice!

I am such a rookie but is this how I would know if I am even ovulating? I know that God's timing is perfect and I count on that but I am excited at the thought of having another miracle :D
