View Full Version : Achy Groin?
Katielady 04-18-2007, 12:43 PM Anyone else out there have just a super achy groin area? Sort of like you did a major work out and stretched a lot. It seems like the last week or two I am just sore, sore, sore in that area and I know I haven't done ANYTHING to strain any muscles down there. :?
I know the ligaments stretch out and loosen during pregnancy but I don't remember having this much achiness down there until much closer to the end with my first.
So- am I alone in my achy groin or do I have some fellow achy pregnant women here?
I had much more pain with the twins than with the others; I had an achy groin/pelvic area with ALL of them, but more so with the twins. My doctor told me it was all the weight of the babies pushing down and causing my pain. It was just about unbearable at the end!! I was PRAYING for them to come so the pain would stop!!! That was the MOST weight I have ever had in utero; about 12 pounds of baby and then fluid/blood to boot! Ugh!!!!!
Praying for your comfort hun! Have the guessed for this baby's weight? Maybe this baby is bigger than your first??
Katielady 04-18-2007, 01:19 PM Actually, the doc is concerned because this baby is smaller than what she feels he should be. He doens't even appear to be 1/2 a pound yet, but should be closer to 1 pound by now. Since I've lost 18 pounds rather than gaining with this pregnancy, I don't think it's the extra weight. But, my belly sure is big! How can you be losing and still be getting bigger?????
It's kind of a give and take... you lose "fat" but gain belly weight... I know, it's weird! I did the same thing with my twins, I lost a lot of weight, I didn't start gaining until the very end. That's kind of weird that you have that pain with a smaller baby... hhmmm... is this the first time you have felt this pain?? Have you called your doctor yet? Groin pain *can* be a sign of labor, your cervix opening and the baby dropping into the birth canal... I mean, I don't want to freak you out but, at the same time, that IS A concern... especially with Everything that is going on with you right now....... Praying sweetie!
Katielady 04-18-2007, 01:33 PM I've been having the pain off and on for a couple of weeks, and when I was in the hospital this past weekend they did ultrasounds and a pelvic exam and everything was ok. So, I guess it's just the ligaments stretching out more and being more noticable than last time.
Yeah, I would say it's normal then... I did have it quite a bit, so I do understand... it's NO fun. I got one of those "exercise" balls, and would sit on that, MAN did it help!!! I've read that women use them during labor for taking the pressure off the pelvis, I used it quite a bit when I was pregnant with my twins, it made a huge difference, and supposedly it helps (later on) to get the baby in a good position for birth, it supposedly opens the birth canal (when things are limbering up for birth). Ugh... keep us posted sweetie.
mlm4ncsu 04-18-2007, 02:10 PM I had this with my last pregnancy. My doctor told me it was just the way she was positioned, possibly on a nerve like the sciatic nerve. It lasted about a month or so, and at one point was so painful I couldn't walk or had to be helped up and down. Getting in and out of a car was the worst because that motion (opening and closing your leg) was almost impossible. In fact, I was at Bible study one evening and they actually had to get the wheelchair to help me get back in the car. I was so embarrassed. The pain subsided through my last few months, but came back during labor. My epidural only took effect on one side, so I was numb in my left leg but it felt like someone was trying to rip my right leg off! Are you carrying him high or low? I carried dd high, but I am carrying this one much lower. Thankfully, I've not had that kind of pain this time, just a lot more pressure. I hope the pain eases up for you soon! Praying for you Katie!
Katielady 04-18-2007, 02:19 PM This one I'm definitely carrying low so far. That probably has something to do with it. Oh, I hope I don't have that severe a problem ahead of me! Eeeck...having to use a wheelchair,,,,now I'm a tad on the worried side. :?
Thanks for the prayers though!
A thought just occurred to me; has your doctor said anything about a warm bath and such? I don't think you should be alone when you do it, depending on how big your belly is, I couldn't get back UP out of the tub by myself, but that warm bath felt GREAT on my pelvis!!!
Katielady 04-18-2007, 02:25 PM Unfortunately, showers are my only option right now due to where we are living. But that is a good idea if it gets worse. Hmmm....wonder how much a motel would charge if all you wanted was to spend an hour in the bathtub?
Ashlee 04-18-2007, 02:40 PM I had this with my last two who both carried low. It was so painful to turn over in bed. I did a lot of research and the conclusion I came to was it being due to the cartlidge between the pelvic bones softening. I actually felt the same aching feeling in the center of my rib cage.. I think there is cartlidge there too. I think the only thing you can do about it is just take it easy.. try not to do anything too strenuous.
buttercup_97140 04-19-2007, 07:29 PM Yup, super bad pelvic pain here. I have a very weak pelvic floor, and actually started getting pain in my pubic synthesis around 8 weeks pg this time around. I had it before I got pg with DD and was in physical therapy until about 25+ weeks pg with her, but didn't do any PT before I got pg with Noah. If you have a weak pelvic floor, kegals can help a bit to strengthen these muscles. They are good to do anyways, but if you can remember, try and do them ALL the time if you ae getting pain. I think mine started hurting when that hormone that relaxes the ligaments and muscles started kicking in, and it's just getting worse as i go along. I am actually on pain meds at night...Tylenol 3's because I can't roll over without it feeling like my pubic bone is going to rip apart and is on fire.
Sadly, this is probably going to be something that is always there and starts earlier with each pg. If I had known how bad it was going to be, I would have kept up on my physical therapy exercises after Dd was born, but because I didn't, and I got pg less than a year after she was born, it's really bad!
An exercise ball might help if you find some good pelivc muscles stabilizing exercises. I sit on one at the computer, and it actually kind of makes it worse, but it helps some too, so you have to watch how your body reacts to it!
I'm sorry things are hurting...I can TOTALLY understand!!
Amber
p.s. I wouldn't worry about baby being too small yet...all babies are created differently, and unless he isn't growing at all, there is time for him to catch up!
p.p.s. I carried my DD VERY low, very very LOW, and I am carrying Noah very high..VERY VERY High and the pain is the same...
