Mckenna is 5 1/2 months almost and about 2 months ago myhairstarted falling out alot. I can run my hands through it lightly and get 7-8 stands by the roots (beads on end) and that keeps happening when I run my fingers through, morewhen i comb and wash..
I wentand gota thyroid test done, it was fine. Not sure what else it can be. my hair is starting to look really thin at the top and sides.
Anyone else have this problem?? Anything natural you can take to help that is safe in pg???
thanks
That is kinda strange, at least to me... my twin, Holly, who was born with two to three inch long and full black hair, lost the majority of the long stuff, and it seemed ALL at ONCE but, it didn't have the cuticle on the end. That's kinda strange... although, I think if there was something wrong, you would know. That doesn't really seem like a red-flag, as so many babies lose their hair as infants. I know three of my four did. Hhhmm.... [whatthink]

You need lots of nutrition. Not junk food, but nutrition. I don't mean to imply you are eating junk food. But sometimes people will tell me they eat plenty, but what they are eating isn't FEEDING their bodies but their appetites. :?
Our farming techniques today leave our soil depleted so we don't get as much nutrition from our fruits and veggies that we used to. :( And very few people eat enough raw fruit and veggies to begin with. It is hard to get in all the fruit and veggies needed for your body to be able to heal itself, prevent disease and be strong and healthy. Pregnancy puts more of a strain and depletes your stores even more!
Vegetable juicing is one way to get more nutition without having to process all the fiber. :) It is great when you are ailing and it is GOOD for an unborn baby and not harmful in the least. :D I juice carrots, celery and apple and ginger every day. Pregnant people should stay away from ginger. There are books out there that list the different food items that are good for you to juice for varying ailments. But raw food has "life" in it and can help you regenerate, something your body does every day, but without proper nutrition it cannot do well. It freaks some people out to think about it, but...even my 17 year old understood the difference after he started.
I started giving him carrot, celery, apple juice because of his hives and swollen lymph nodes. He didn't like it at first but by the end of the week he did like it. We got lazy and missed several days and he noticed his acne got worse again. Now he asks for it as it helps his skin so much when he drinks it regularly! :D
You can get a decent juicer for 89 dollars at Target, the Jack LaLane juicer! More nutirition through food God has created will help a lot of illnesses including hair loss! I am praying for you! :D

Wow... good info here! Thanks... ::taking notes::
I agree with Leslie.
When my body was run down after a previous pregnacy and I was ill... my hair started falling down.
But as my body started to recover (and all the vitmins i was on started to fill my body's depleation) my hair came right.
Take a look at your diet, and maybe take some vitamin suppliment to help you along. (cannot do you any harm)
it is funny if your hair falls out while you pg. i would normally loose a few strands when washing hair - but never while i was pg. i thought that when you pg, you don't loose hair for some reason. i have you checked it out with your dr yet?
All the best.

Mom's losing hair immediatly to after a year after delivery is hormone related and very, very common and typical...! No worries. You won't go bald! LOL...happened to me the first time and going through it right now! It will stop and thicken back up when the hormones regulate some again! suggest a good mult-vit. with Vit B
my ds is almost 5mos and I am losing hair like crazy! i have to clean the drain everytime i shower and blowdrying is a nightmare. my doc said that is b/c of the change in hormones but i do believe that i could be eating better....

[rofllol] I agree! It happened after all of my births. Baby ds is 5 mths now and it's still going on. It's so bad it's all over the house   Don't worry, it will all grow back and it's perfectly normal!

Yeah, I had ii, too, with each baby. Did you notice that your hair was fuller before you gave birth? I hardly lost a hair for the last four months of my pregnancies. Some ladies notice that, some don't. Anyway, yeah, totally normal. Guess what the good news is, Chandra? You're pregnant again, so you'll stop shedding sooner than you would if you weren't. :D

Dh asked me when I would stop shedding now that I was pg again...LOL! I guess I lost LOTS Of hair after Dd was born too. I lost hair a lot when I was pg too, but I have a TON of hair to start with, so it just slowed down falling out. Now that I am almost at term, I don't recall losing much, but I know I will soon after birth. I am almost looking forward to losing all he hair that has grown on my face and belly though!
I agree that you probably need some good nutrition because your pregnancies are close together, but I wouldnt worry too much about your hair unless it really looks like you are getting bald spots! *I just thought this...your hair may look thinner in some places because you lost more in one spot at that time, but after a while, your hair will even out when the hair that was suppose to fall out during pregnancy finally does!*

Ditto! :D My hair was so thick and full during my first pregnancy that it scared me when it first started falling out after having dd. It lasted for about 7-8 months, or until we found out we were pregnant again. Dh and I would fight over who's turn it was to clean the bathroom! [chorevacuum] Cleaning the drain was a daily task and dh joked that I lost enough hair to make a wig for someone else. I guess it won't be long now and it'll start all over again! It's amazing how much those hormones affect!!

Thanks
went back to the dr that did the thyroid test and he is sending me to a speciallist, Endro... something, hormone dr, mostly for my iron too, not just my hair.. Talked to my ob/gyn, and he said he would refer me to a specialist that started with a G about my hair. Sorry cant think of the names. I will post if I remember after.. lol thanks again.

I also shed hair after each delivery. One thing that's worked well for me is to get it cut a bit shorter. I find if I'm pulling it back or up constantly I have more loss and breakage. Also, my little ones tend to pull on it when nursing. I go to a slightly shorter style and then when it seems healthier let it get longer again.
