So how do you all make it through potty training without having to replace your carpet by the time it's all over? :? I swear our carpet from the den all the way to the bathroom needs to be ripped up. I like to keep a clean, sanitary house and it just disgusts me to think of all the times pee has hit the floor.
Maybe this is just a vent...but, honestly...it's so gross. [sorry]

My master bathroom is all carpet! ALL CARPET!! Ugh! So, I completely understand as my son usually used our potty rather than "his" bathroom. He doesn't like his for some reason, and of course our carpet got "sprayed" several times before we got him trained. My DH isn't much better with his "aim" sometimes either. *Men - why don't they pay attention to what they are doing?* So, I've been there, done that and feel for you my sister!
We have a carpet cleaner (hoover, steam cleaner) and I have used that twice in the past year in that area alone. It has taken care of the stains, odor and really has been a lifesaver. Maybe you can rent one of those from the grocery store? It usually costs around $20-$25 a day then another $20 on cleaner and odor eliminator.
That's a whole lot cheaper than ripping up carpet and replacing it.

Yeah we have a steam cleaner and a carpet shampooer but it still can't clean the carpet pads underneath! Ick! Our guest bathroom (the kids bathroom in between their rooms) has carpet too. What were they thinking when they put carpet down in the bathroom!?
I just wanted to second the idea of the steam cleaner. they are wonderful and if you like it alot you might think about purchasing one then you could spot clean anytime you needed! :D

I think we were posting at the same time!! :D
I dont' really like carpet. I live in an apartment so right now have no say in what to do with it, but when we get our own place one day I will not have carpet in the main rooms where there is lots of traffic. I feel it is easier to clean hard floors!

Oh yes I understand! Me and my hubby used to clean carpets so I know from experience how the underside of the carpet must look after all of timmy's accidents. But I rent too, so hopefully by the time we get our own house Timmy will be all trained and ready to go!

Oh, Becca, I gross out at that kind of thing, too. [whatblah] When I was potty training my little ones, I wondered how mommies who let their kids wet themselves did it. I tried it a couple of times, no pull-ups, just to let Scotty feel when he was wet, and he'd soak himself right down to his socks, and the floor would be all wet, too. I just couldn't do it. I had babies crawling around on that floor. Heck, I even hated to handle the pee-soaked clothes, just getting them to the washer. I used pull-ups all the way. Pee-soaked carpet just didn't fit into my world on any level. [rofl]

We haven't started potty training yet, but I imagine there will be lots of "accidents" on the carpet. Unfortunely ours is already so stained it needs to be replace now.
we didn't - we switched to hardwood floors and this was a major reason. All the spills and accidents! I love that I can mop and sanitize the floor!
This is a concern for me as well. Unfortunately, it isn't my carpet I'm worried about, it is my mil's.
Short version of a long story: we are living in one city for my husband's studies, but returning home for four months over the summer and staying with mil while we are there. Ds is starting to show interest in the potty, asking to go, etc. and I can just see him being ready to train while we are at mils...here's hoping for a warm summer spent outside.
