I happened to catch "The Dog Whisperer" the other night and there was some wonderful spiritual light in that show. There were a couple of dogs that Cesar Millan was working with that were particularly aggressive. They just seemed to be irritated at everyone and everything, baring their teeth and growling at the other dogs. It was so interesting to me that, Cesar never reacted to them in a mean or overbearing way, yelling or whomping them with a newspaper. He just simply made them lie down. A dog who had an altercation with another dog was made to lie down at his feet. Then, eventually the dog learns to be what a dog should be i.e. getting along with other dogs, cooperative, content and basically happy to be a dog and happy with his master.

This spoke to me about the Lord. It seems that before He can make any progress with us, He has to make us lie down. We are irritated, discontent, aggressive, turning ourselves inside out, and wondering why we're not at peace. Baring our teeth, lunging at others, pulling against our leash and chasing our tails is getting us nowhere. So, our Father, lovingly makes us lie down. He holds His hand on us until we're still:

Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.
Psalm 139:5

It's as though He must make us lie down in green pastures before He can lead us beside still waters and in the paths of righteousness:

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Psalm 23:2-3

So, if you're feeling pressure today, perhaps it's the Lord's hand upon you and it's a good thing! :D

Hmmm, have you been spying on my life?? :D God's really been convicting me about my prayer life, and I know that I will continue to struggle until I surrender and just sit (or lie) at His feet. Thanks Madre for sharing something else that God is using as a kick up my backside

Nope, God is teaching me to "lie still" in my own areas.

Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child. Ps. 131:2
