Okay ladies - you've convinced me to at least attempt cloth diapering. My only problem is I am absolutely clueless as to what Fuzzibuns, mother of eden and AOI's are. I mean the farthest I've ever gotten with cloth is the ones I use as burp rags (you know the gerber kind that are pretty worthless when it comes to covering little tooshies!).
So, I've read some of the stickies here on CD'ing, but still, I'm a lost goose. Anyone have some self help books on cloth diapering laying around? I have around 4 months to go before Ashton arrives and I can sew a little (by hand, don't have access to a machine) so if patterns are the cheapest, then do you have any to share and can you tell me the best materials to get?
Thanks!

I can't really help with the namebrands cause I sewed my own.
But my fave websites are www.thenappynetwork.org.nz and www.onestopdiapershop.com
The nappy network has some free patterns that I used and they worked out good. I ended up changing the patterns a bit to fit my ds better. Once you know what kind of diapers you want to use, pockets, aio's, fitted's, then you'll be able to figure out what fabrics you'll need. Most of the fabrics will have to be ordered online. The best place I found was www.wazoodle.com. They have a diaper shop there with material made specifically for diaper making.
Let me know if you have any questions.. I will try to help as much as I can.

Thanks! Both of those sites are informative and I may actually try to sew a few simple ones on my own.
This is an adventure I'm sure I'll be glad I started on!
you might want to buy a couple so you can get a feel for how they work and what kind you might like.
I think there are basically 3 camps:
AIO - all in one, just like a disposable, nothing to assemble, just use, wash, dry. Personally, I think they take too long to dry and aren't as absorbent. But, they are really easy!
Pocket diapers - like Fuzzi Bunz. they have a PUL (waterproof) layer ont he outside and a fleece layer on the inside, you stuff absorbent inserts in the opening (pocket) in the back. Good because you can customize absorbency. A con is that is does take time to remove the stuffins and then re-stuff when they are dry.
Fitteds/prefolds and covers. Can be the cheapest or most expensive option. Prefolds are cheap, and if you get CPF or Indian, they are really absorbent. A lot of people like Proraps covers. Then there are fitted diapers, which are nice, and they go on easy, dry in one cycle usually (no outer waterproof layer to slow the drying...), and for all natural, you can get wool covers called soakers (think plastic pants) or longies (think tight pj pants).
If you need more help pm me even if it's just to look at this thread again. I'm not able to be on as much as I used to be, and VBS is coming up so I don't see that changing.
