My daughter has had some problems with rashes on her back and upper thighs for awhile now. We have tried two different prescribed cremes and nothing seems to ever make it go totally away. I had been thinking maybe it was eczema, since alot of my mom's side has it. So today we took her to the doc about it....AGAIN. And they said that was indeed what she had. Cause now its on her upper thighs and in between the crease of her knees. They gave her another creme just for it and another steroid creme. So does anyone elses children have on the forum and if so...since it pops up so often...have you come acrossed anything that relieves your little one? I know the doc said we could give her benedryl liquid if she itched with it...but, so far she has never itched with any episode. I just wanted to know if there was some other ways to treat it..besides cremes.

I think I saw another thread about eczema on this board somewhere. My son has it too. It started around this time last year and cleared up. Just recently it has started up again in the bends of his arms. We rub cream on it when it bothers him. I had it as a child and was told only to use Dove or Ivory soap. That seems to help my son too.

My son has it and here's what we were told

Limit baths because they tend to dryt he skin out more.
Stay away from creams that have alchohol in them
Stay away from perfume anything, laundry soap, shampoo, etc
increase fluids
use heavy cream all the time

what we did on top of the above
We lotioned at every diaper change. we used aquaphor and burts bees cream (not lotion)
we used burts beeds baby bee shampoo and it was great!
and we made sure that he had enough nursing sessions and water/juice in his sippy cup that day it can be irritating. When I first noticed it I was so upset because his baby soft skin was gone . :cry:

I have it on my hands and I have a prescription to be used as needed. When I picked it up the pharmicist said to get it in a petroleum jelly base instead of a cream, because cream can actually dry out your skin. Also, in the pharmacy at Walmart you can ask for a tube of Aquaphoric. It is like a lotion and very soothing. You don't need a prescrition for it. Don't use creamy vaseline, because it burns and stings very badly. I also found that anything with lanolin in it made it worse. My ds had it on his thumb for about a year and a half and it ended up going away on it's own.

Thank you for the tips everyone! The way it looks...it does look painful. She did not start itching til today. But, the cream has worked great and it's actually less scally and looks like it is shrinking a bit. Right now they gave her......locoid and elidel. He said the locoid could be used for two weeks. But, since it is a steroid....we can't use it as much. The elidel may be something they will be prescribing to her on a regular basis. He told us to give it a week...see what happens and then call back for a prescription. But, the bag of samples he gave us can go long beyond that. I will def. look for the Aquaphoric lotion monday. I also seen the burt bees stuff in the new target we got. Here they don't usually carry it unless it is a specaility store...semi-small town I guess...usually health food stores. I appreciate all the tips. She has been dealing with this for well over a year now. I am finally glad that something is working and I will use the tips to see if that will keep it at bay as well. Cause, it just looks sooo uncomfortable. I know it has to be and she can not talk yet...so there is no way to let me when or where she is hurting.

My third son had it as a baby and toddler. It was related to milk. We switched to soy formula after I quit breast feeding. We used Eucerin cream on the patches. He did eventually grow out of it, though he tends toward drier skin than the other 3. But I have heard that milk sensitivity can be a cause :?:

I've also heard that Eucerin cream works really well on it, but I don't have any personal experience

we use gentle naturals eczema cream- it works really well for us but, she only has a small case on her face from time to time so, I don't know how helpful that'll be. -ren

Up above its weird you mentioned about the milk...it only coming after your little one started on the milk...I have been wondering if it is her medicine. She has bladder problems and will be on macrodantin until she is five. It didn't start until she was on the antibiotic.

We use to use that at Columbus Children's Hospital when I worked there. It is pretty good stuff! :)
