....lost weight during pregnancy or just not gained much weight. With my last baby, I only gained about 23 pounds. If we have another baby, I would like to do the same (or less  ). Please don't think I'm vain. I'm just already fat. I can't afford too much more on the old body!!

So, anyone?

Well, with both of my kids I gained a lot of weight, but hey, what's good about being prego if you can't eat all the time w/o worrying about getting fat!

They were times I did not gain much since the last visit or lost some weight, but I wouldn't sugest on dieting or anything. The baby needs those vitamins!

Don't worry about your weight too much! Have fun and enjoy that time!

With the twins I only gained about 15 pounds total. I was sick so much and just didn't eat very much so I didn't gain weight. When I went home from the hospital I got out my skinny jeans and they fit and I hadn't been able to wear them for a couple of years. It was great. Unfortunately, I hadn't been able to eat anything for so long that I kind of made up for lost time and put it all back on and more.

While pregnant with my son, I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and while following the diet changes suggested by the dietician, I ended up losing weight by the end of my pregnancy.

No I didn't really put on weight as such but I swelled up because I began to suffer from pre-eclampsya. I was carrying twins and I could eat like a horse like a whole pizza to myself but I think pretty much THEY ended up with all of my food LOL.

With ds I only gained a couple of pounds but that was due to some major morning sickness. And just like Phyll I walked out of the hospital in prepregnancy jeans with plenty of room to spare. I also made up for lost time and put almost all of myy lost weight back on. So far with this one I am down 10 pounds again due to morning sickness. But also my metabolism seems to shift and I really am not any more hungry than normal. Now this has changed in the last week or two so maybe I'm in for a weight gain.

With ds I gained 23 lbs and dd I gained 18 lbs. My Dr. said not to worry about not gaining much because they will get the nutrition they need and only if you are underweight to begin with should you worry about it.

I really think, based on my own experience and that of ladies I've talked to, your body pretty much decides on its own how much to gain. Of course, if you binge on cake, you might gain more- but in general, just eat healthy, lots of fruits and vegetables, etc., and your baby will take what it needs. I didn't try to gain, or try not to gain. I gained 30 pounds with both pregnancies- one was a singleton, and one was twins- and I was back to prepregnancy weight by a week postpartum both times.

From what I've heard, dieting to lose weight during pregnancy is not recommended. What would be good is to find very efficient ways to meet all the nutrient requirements.

I've been amazed at how my body has tended to regulate it's own weight gain this pregnancy. I just eat lots of good quality proteins and grains, gets fruits and vegetables, etc. and try to get exercise on a fairly regular basis and my body seems to have a mind of its own when it's gaining weight. I rarely ever eat much junk food and I'm already up to a 22 pound weight gain at 6 months along. I gained a little extra in the first trimester, due to the fact that I had very little morning sickness, so had a good appetite the majority of the time. I figure that if I stay at my current rate of my weight gain, I should gain about 35-40 pounds over the course of the pregnancy, which is not unreasonable.

What's more important than the amount of weight gained, IMHO, is the food that it was gained on.

I can understand your desire to not put on unneccessary weight, though. Perhaps your doctor or midwife could put you on a nutritional plan that would be specifically tailored to your specific needs.

God bless!

I gained about 17kgs (which is definitely over 30lbs) with my first pregnancy but this time I haven't been gaining much at all. I was 83kg before and now I'm 90kg and I'm 24 weeks. I just haven't been eating as much as I did last time.

I lost 4 pounds when I was pregnant at one point because I had been sick with the flu and cold. I was a little freaked out, but the nurse and doctor assured me it was okay.
