View Full Version : Baby vaccinations
I know this is a hot topic but I am so confused. What have you done about vaccinating your babies? I have done a lot of research and there is good information on both sides. Are there some vaccinations that you did give your babies and some that you did not? This is such a big decision and I have been praying about it. We got the first round of all 4 vaccinations (DTaP, HIB, and 2 others) and ds did not have any kind of reaction. HOwever, I hear that the second round is worse. I am not sure I want to continue vaccinating him! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
I got my dd's routine vaccinations just bcuz I didn't know any better. But thru this site I have learned about vaccinations. A good book to get is "What your doctor may not tell you about children's vaccinations". One of the ladies on here recommended it to me and it's really good. I'm not too sure about the second round being worse than the first. My guess would be that it would be the same, being that the substance and toxins in the actual vaccine are the same. Maybe I'm wrong. I hope one of the other ladies can help you better than I have!
I felt like a complete moron when it came to making a decision about vaccinating my son. I spent a lot of time researching the both sides of the debate, and initially I was against having my son vaccinated. Ultimately we decided to go for it, one reason being if we travel internationally (which we plan on doing), the risk of him catching something in a 2nd or 3rd world country is quite possible, and isn't a risk I wanted to take. We did wait until he was about 5 months old to get his first set of shots, and I'm glad I did. I wanted to make the right decision for us, without being pressured one way or the other.

We have decided after much prayer and research to not vaccinate our children. We will have our daughters vaccinated with a few things when they get about 16 or so to protect them and their children from certain things if they are blessed with pregnancies, and being much older they hopefully will tollerate them well.
We have agreed to vaccinate if we go out of country, but right now that seems like a slim chance...but we never know what the Lord has planned!
Although there are good and bad on both sides, we have two major "issues" throughout our family that really helped make the decision. We have ADHD/ADD VERY rampid in our family, and that is a form of autism, and we just don't want to take the risk that we could trigger this in our children who are very prone to these disorders, and my Mom has MS, which is an autoimmune disease, and they think there is a link to autoimmune diseases and vaccinations....like it could possibly turn those diseases ON. Because of this, and many other things, we have chosen not to vax.
I think no matter what you decide it needs to be something that has been brought before the Lord often, and information needs to be sought...like you said you have done. If you truly believe you are doing what the Lord puts on your heart, then trust that his will is what will be done....we know it's what will be done anyways, but you can sleep at night knowing you have done what you "should" as a Christian seeking the Lord's will. It may not turn out how you planned, but really what in life does? The Lord loves us and knows what he is doing! :D
I pray for an answer for you and your family on this, it's a VERY hard decision!

We get our son vaccinated, but I always ask if the vaccines were mercury free. That is what has been reported to be linked to autism. "They" say they don't make them with mercury anymore but I always ask to be more safe. My son's doctor also waits until they are recommended to be given whereas some doctor's start too early, IMO. We don't do any of the "extra" shots though...chicken pox, flu, etc. To me, those are unnecessary, but that's just me.

If I had a baby today I would get the old vaccinations of dpt, polio, mmr, hib. The others aren't necessary in my book. I also would start FAR later than they want you to especially if they are breast fed. I would start at 9 months and get one shot at a time. It takes longer but if they continue to be breast fed it helps them tremendously! :) It is a personal decision and I understand those who pray and choose not to get any at all. :) We prayed and decided after 18 months no more. We get tetanus if they get a deep, dirty, puncture wound. But they didn't get their mmr boosters and have never had hepatitus vaccines and some of the other "newer" ones. It is a deeply personal decision that many simply bring before the Lord. :D

Breast feeding affords passive immunity through the mother's milk. I experienced this first hand. My 3rd son, 2 1/2 yrs, came down with chicken pox. He was feverish and took a bath with son number 4 who was only 1 before we knew he had chicken pox. I figured it was a given that son number 4 would get them. But I was still nursing him. Only at bedtime, nap time, and in the morning, and occasionally for comfort. BUT he never got them. At 21 months he was weaned. At 23 months we exposed him to chicken pox and he got them right away. So a breast fed baby is less likely to get these diseases that their nursing mother is immune to as they get the antibodies through their mother's milk. :D

That makes perfect sense and don't know why I didn't think of that to begin with. Thanks! :)

Personal choice, but we didn't have our children immunized as infants. We decided to go ahead years later, but by then what they required was pretty minimal.

Interesting idea. I like it. Goes to show you you can wait a whole lot longer than 2 months to start some of them!

I never even thought about vacinating or not. Wow I feel dumb. I've given my son every shot they at every appointed time. He always did well with it though, mild fever once. Thank you for bringing up the subject, I think I'll look into this now.

We quit vaccinating after the 2 month mark. I felt coerced to giver her the Hep. B in the hospital. She then procedded to get pale from it and the ped. on call ordered a bunch of tests and kept her for two extra days to wait for the results. Then, at the 2 month, I only let them give hib and dtap. Same thing happened, extremely pale and lethargic. Which according to the paperwork I was given indicates a moderately severe reaction. Since my reactions to things build, we decided to halt them. Also, in the course of my research on vax, I decided that I did not agree with several of the ingredients (formaldehyde, aluminum which are both toxic) along with morals reasons for several of them. I know that we can change our mind someday in regards to vaxing, but you can get them later, you can't get them taken out if they are already put in and you decide to stop.
