I about to start potty trainig my almost 3 year old. Do you teach your boys to stand to pee or sit? I heard sit, but all the potty books for kids show them standing.

We started on a little potty that played music when he went potty..but he sat first... eventually from watching daddy he wanted to do what daddy did!! Men can be so messy

Yeah Timmy started sitting and eventually went to standing. It's defintely better to have standers when you go to public pottys though.

If you have them standing I would suggest throwing some Cherrios in the potty so that they have something to aim at. It is less messy that way!

mine have always started sitting
once they have the potty thing in general down and are ready, they will stand
I recall just when or how it happens, but it does LOL

We are not very far into our pting experience, but we are doing sitting. But he didn't buy it until he witnessed his daddy going while sitting.

:P My son still sits when he's on his potty, I think that works best.

I ask Gavin which potty he wants to use first (the little one or the bigger one?) and then if he picks the bigger potty I ask him if he wants to stand or sit and he picks. He started standing on his own - which is odd because DH sits all the time - LOL - TMI ;). But Gavin thought it was fun to stand and he did - but he doesn't always! We taught him sitting down though.

I wish I had trained them to sit. But it sounds like they go to standing after awhile anyway. :? The standing is a MESSY business! Sprays everywhere! They don't pay attention. Will turn to look and something and swing around  oh my! Yes, sitting is far better for however long it lasts! The boy's bathroom is well...let's not go there!

oh well, I'm also on the same wagon as yours... :) I'm in the process of training my 2yrs&10mos old boy..he's doing good when he wants to go (well, sometimes..lol) but when he pees, he isn't still interested on the potty. he's still on his nappy until now. we'll get there soon..

We haven't started potty training yet, but I can tell you that my sister started both of her boys off sitting on the potty...we will probably do the same.....if he ever gets ready.

Ds pees sitting down, and I would have it no other way! But then so does dh and I guess I'm blessed when it comes to cleaning bathrooms! I can see that it would be nice to stand when in public restrooms, but otherwise I think this is the way to go! I'm amazed how many of my friends say their dh's sit too... thought mine was the only one!!!

We had our son sit first. We used one of those seats that go on the big potty, most come with a splashguard to use until they learn how to hold it down. After about 3-4 months of being in underwear he learned to stand. He was 2 1/2 when he was in underwear and fully trained.

Our son started peeing on the potty sitting down. He actually sat on the seat backwards, as he was stradling it. Now he will sit or stand, I let him choose. It was definitely easier to start with for him to be sitting down.

Same with our sons.

We are about to start this process and I talked to my sister who has 2 boys and she said she started them with sitting facing the toilet. She said that way it may end up on the toilet, but it is less likely to hit the wall or floor. So, I'm going to give it a try.

This is how we are doing it also. We are still in the process. Although, I have a friend who did it this way to and said that for her son it was confusing to turn around and sit the "normal" way to poo poo.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think we will go ahead and do sitting down first.
